April 3, 2026 - PATERSON, NJ - The Charlotte Independence suffered their first defeat of the 2026 USL League One campaign on Friday night, falling 3-2 to the New York Cosmos at Hinchliffe Stadium.
Ajmeer Spengler converted three penalty kicks for the Cosmos, while Viggo Ortiz scored his second league goal of the season and Jefferson Amaya netted his first professional goal for the Independence.

The match, scheduled for the week of April 13 at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex at Matthews, will mark the first competitive meeting between the two clubs, with city pride and a place in the Round of 16 on the line. The official date and kickoff time will be announced soon.

March 31, 2026 - CHARLOTTE, NC - Viggo Ortiz delivered a dramatic 118th-minute winner to send the Charlotte Independence into the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Third Round, defeating the Charleston Battery 3-2 after extra time.
It was a storybook finish for Ortiz, who joined the Independence this offseason from Charleston. Souaibou Marou and Luis Alvarez also found the scoresheet as Charlotte built a two-goal lead before the Battery stormed back to force extra time.
