Three RBI Night from Hicklen Pushes Omaha over Indianapolis
June 3, 2022 - International League (IL)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Papillion, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (26-24) used a two RBI single in the seventh to take the 4-1 win over the Indianapolis Indians (25-25). Omaha is 2-1 in this series while Indianapolis still leads the season series 4-3.
After retiring the Indianapolis half of the first, Omaha wasted little time putting a tally on the board. In his first plate appearance for Omaha since May 25, RF Brewer Hicklen launched his sixth home run of the season to give the Storm Chasers the 1-0 lead.
To start the third, SS Angelo Castellano drew a walk, but a pair of strikeouts and a lineout would end his trip around the bases at first.
The Indians came back in the fourth and hit a solo home run of their own to knot the score.
RHP Daniel Mengden would go 6.0 strong innings in his second consecutive quality start, allowing one earned run on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in the no decision. This game marks the third game in a row that Mengden has gone 6.0 innings. In four of his last five games, Mengden has allowed just one earned run.
Castellano would get a single with two away in the seventh to start the Storm Chasers' rally. CF Michael A Taylor would force an error from the Indians before 1B Nick Pratto juiced the bases with a walk. Hicklen would hit a single into right field to score both Castellano and Taylor to retake the Omaha lead 3-1.
Omaha added another in the eighth, with C Freddy Fermin reaching on a fielding error with nobody out. A single from 2B Gabriel Cancel would move Fermin to third and a sacrifice fly from LF Nate Eaton would make the score 4-1.
The Storm Chasers would allow a single and a walk in the ninth, but in the end kept the Indians off the scoreboard and secure Omaha's win.
LHP Josh Dye (Win, 3-1) would go 2.0 innings of relief with four strikeouts and no walks before RHP Brad Peacock (Save) would come in to throw the ninth.
Omaha continues their series with Indianapolis on Friday with Fireworks Friday. Catch a fireworks show after the game presented by Hy-Vee. First pitch for game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.
