June 3, 2022 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release
JOEY MY HOMIE: Joey Meneses collected a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to plate Donovan Casey and send Rochester to their fifth walk-off victory of the year, 2-1...the win came in front of 10,510 fans, the largest crowd of the season, and the first time Frontier Field has eclipsed 10,000 fans since August 30, 2019, when 10,118 Red Wing faithful showed up to support the team...the Wings now have a record 12-2 in one-run games and mark their best record through 51 games (33-18) since winning the Governor's Cup in 1997.
MERRY STRAS-MAS: Pitching at Frontier Field for the first time since May 19, 2010, RHP Stephen Strasburg pitched six shutout innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out four batters...the 2019 World Series Champion did not allow his lone base hit of the night until right fielder Nathan Lukes hit a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth...prior to Lukes' base knock, and including his last start in Single-A Fredericksburg, Strasburg had not allowed a hit in 10.2 innings...
ON THE CASE: Donovan Casey hit a home run in the bottom of the 3rd inning to give the Wings an early lead...this was Casey's fifth home run of the season, and his first since May 21 against Lehigh Valley...he has hit all five of his blasts off of right-handed pitchers, the second-most among active Red Wings' hitters, behind only first baseman, Joey Meneses (6)...the Red Wings are now 5-0 when Casey homers, and 24-4 when hitting at least one long ball.
ANDREW STREAKENSON: Despite going 0-for-3, and losing his nine-game hitting streak, left fielder Andrew Stevenson drew a walk in the first inning, extending his on-base streak to 10 games, the longest active streak on the Red Wings...
BISONS NOTES
MAX EFFORT: Bisons RHP Max Castillo gave up just two hits in 6.1 innings pitched, striking out five Red Wing' batters and walking just one...Castillo's only run allowed came in the bottom of the third with a Donovan Casey hit a solo home run...his outing was highlighted by a 69% strike rate (68 pitches; 47 strikes)
