Worcester Red Sox News Release

WORCESTER, M.A. - The Syracuse Mets (17-33) powered their way to a runaway victory over the Worcester Red Sox (25-27) on Friday night, a 13-1 final score in front of 7,350, the 14th sellout of the season at Polar Park.

Syracuse scored in five of their first six offensive innings, pounding out all 13 runs in that span.

Seven of those runs were charged to WooSox starter Josh Winckowski (five earned) in his four innings of work. An RBI groundout by Dominic Smith got the scoring started in the first, a run answered immediately by Worcester on a Rob Refsnyder single in the bottom of the inning.

From there, the Mets offense took over, starting with a four spot in the third. An RBI double by Jake Mangum helped the road team regain the lead, one that would hold through the end of the night. Two batters later, Smith delivered a run-scoring single, followed by RBI hits from Daniel Palka and JT Riddle.

A pair of fourth inning doubles made it 6-1, and in the fifth, Syracuse added five more runs. The fifth inning rally was led by a three-run home run from Khalil Lee, his second long ball of the series.

On the mound, A.J. Politi, Zack Kelly and Kaleb Ort each posted a scoreless inning to close the night.

The WooSox continue the home series Saturday at 4:05 p.m. against the Syracuse Mets, affiliate of the New York Mets. On the mound, Brayan Bello (3-0, 3.18) faces Nate Fisher, who makes his Triple-A debut. Radio coverage is live at 3:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network, while television coverage is on NESN+.
