Buffalo Bisons News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - The Buffalo Bisons fell to the Rochester Red Wings 2-1 on Friday night in what was a very entertaining pitcher's duel between Max Castillo and the rehabbing Stephen Strasburg at Frontier Field.

Strasburg, making his first Triple-A rehab start of the season as he works his way back from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery, no-hit the Bisons through 5.2 innings of work before giving up a single to Nathan Lukes in the sixth.

The former No. 1 overall pick and World Series MVP retired 18 out of the 20 batters he faced, ultimately going six shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out four.

His opponent, however, was almost as impressive, as Max Castillo went 6.1 strong innings of work, gave up just two hits and a walk, and retired 17 of the 20 batters he faced. One of the two hits happened to leave the yard however, and so the Herd trailed 1-0 after Donovan Casey's solo shot in the third.

Castillo, who began the year with Double-A New Hampshire, has now pitched 18 innings in Triple-A and has given up just one earned run and five hits with the Herd over three starts.

The Bisons tied things up in the eighth when, after singles from Chavez Young and Eric Stamets put runners on the corners with one away, Lukes beat out a fielder's choice that allowed Young to cross the plate.

Rochester would load the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth with their best hitter up in Joey Meneses, who would walk it off with a high chopper to third that just skated over the glove of Stamets for a game-winning infield single.

The Bisons and Red Wings will continue their six-game series tomorrow by making up Wednesday night's rainout in the form of a doubleheader. Game one will see Thomas Hatch go up against Cade Cavalli, the top pitching prospect of the Nationals, while game two will see Casey Lawrence facing Logan Verrett.

The first game is set to begin at 5:05 p.m. EST., with the nightcap scheduled to start roughly half an hour following the conclusion of game one.
