IronPigs Win One, Lose One

(Moosic, PA) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (28-24) and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (19-32) split their double-header on Friday evening. The IronPigs won game won 9-2 and the RailRiders won game two 2-1.

Game 1

The 'Pigs scored five runs in the top of the first inning against Ryan Weber (2-2) to take a 5-0 lead. Matt Vierling hit an RBI triple that scored Didi Gregorius and Yairo Munoz hit an RBI single that scored Vierling. Rafael Marchan followed up with a three-run home run - his first career minor league home run that scored Munoz and Dustin Peterson.

Jorge Bonifacio hit the first grand slam of the season for the IronPigs, and it was against Zach Greene in the top of the third inning. The IronPigs would take a 9-0 lead.

Bailey Falter (2-0) allowed just two runs over six innings pitched. He gave up a two-run home urn in the bottom of the fifth inning by Oliver Dunn. Falter struck out nine batters while issuing just one walk.

Game 2

Lehigh Valley scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Dustin Peterson stole home with one out in the inning. It was his third stolen base of the season. Lehigh Valley took a 1-0 lead. Jose Peraza hit a go-ahead two-run single against Nick Duron (1-2) in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the RailRiders a 2-1 lead. It was Duron's first blown save of the season.

Jake Newberry got the start for Lehigh Valley. He pitched two scoreless innings. Kyle Dohy, Michael Kelly, and Jakob Hernandez each followed with a scoreless inning of relief.

Johny Brito allowed just one run over five innings in his start for the RailRiders. David McKay earned the win by pitching a scoreless top of the sixth inning. Greg Weissert earned his fourth save of the season by closing the game in the top of the seventh inning.

The IronPigs and RailRiders continue their series on Saturday evening at PNC Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
