Despite the loss, Norfolk still only sits four points back of the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division.

Reading got on the board first with a goal from Michael Hunterbrinker. The Admirals turned over the puck at the blue line of their offensive zone which led to a rush the other way for Reading. An Admirals defender lost an edge at the defensive blue-line which led to a two-on-one odd-man rush into the Norfolk zone. Hunterbrinker faked a shot and skated into the left circle and fired off a wrister that beat Ty Reichenbach stick side to give Reading a 1-0 lead at 13:10 of the first period.

The Royals extended their lead with a power-play tally from Frank DiChiara. Michael Hunterbrinker kept the puck in on the left side at the point for Reading. Hunterbrinker played the puck into the left circle for Adam Schmidt. Schmidt played a pass across the ice for DiChara who was able to one-time a shot past Reichenbach over the glove to extend the Reading lead to 2-0 lead at 14:46 of the first period.

Norfolk cut into the Reading lead with a goal from Jake Wood. Luke Nogard made a heads-up play to keep the puck into the Norfolk offensive zone. Nogard fed the puck to the right point for Matt McMorrow. McMorrow then passed the puck into the right circle. Wood ripped a shot that went right -over the glove of Brandon Komm to cut the Reading lead to 2-1 at 9:16 of the first period.

Reading answered the Norfolk goal with a goal from Joe Houk. Braden Low gathered the puck in the left circle. Low played the puck back to the left point for Jack Riley. Riley shot the puck and the rebound fell right to the stick of Houk who shot the puck to give Reading a 3-1 lead with less than 10 seconds to go in the first period.

Norfolk answered the Reading tally with a goal from Luke Nogard. The Admirals were able to keep the puck in the Reading end after a long period of pressured zone time. Don Olivieri played the puck to the left circle for Matt McMorrow. McMorrow then played a pass back-door to a streaking Nogard who had an easy tap-in to cut the Reading lead to 3-2.

Reading then added another goal with a goal from Adam Schmidt. Frank DiChara played a pass into the left circle for Joe Hauk who shot a one timer which was initially saved by Reichenbach. Schmidt was able to find the rebound and knock it out of mid-air past Reichenbach to give Reading a 4-2 lead at 14:05 of the second period.

Reading added a late empty net goal late to seal the contest by a 5-2 count.
