Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah- The Utah Grizzlies jumped to an early 2-0 lead, but were unable to hang on, as they fell 5-3 to the Fresno Falcons, Friday night at the E-Center.

Just under the five-minute mark of the first period, Kris Kasper took a feed from Travis Rycroft and put the puck past the pipes, giving the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. At 8:06, Barret Ehgoetz fired the puck between the legs of Falcons netminder, Jamie Holden, to put the Grizzlies up 2-0. Helpers went to Brad Herauf and Ed Hill. With the assist, Herauf extended his season-high point streak to four games (1 goal, 3 assists.)

Fresno began to fight back in the second period when J.F. Plourde backhanded the puck up and over the reach of Grizzlies goaltender, Justin Eddy, to cut the lead to one. Shawn Mather got the equalizer for the Falcons at the 9:50 mark when he broke away from the Grizzlies defense and found the back of the net for the 17th time this year. Utah regained the lead at the 13:54 mark, when Garett Cameron squeaked the puck past the goal line as several players from both sides collided in front of the net. Louis Dumont and Jeff Miles were credited with the assists. Fresno knotted the score at three when Dustin VanBallegooie blasted the puck from the high-slot into the back of the net.

VanBallegooie struck again at the 5:43 mark of the third period, in what would prove to be the game winner for the Falcons. Shawn Mather put the final touches on the 5-3 victory when he found the empty net with just 19 seconds left in the contest.

Utah (22-19-4) will look to bounce back Saturday night, as they continue their seven-game home stand, taking on the Fresno Falcons once again at the E-Center. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
