STOCKTON, Calif. - The ECHL announced today that Alaska forward Alex Leavitt has been named CCM Vector Rookie of the Month for January.

Leavitt, who turned 22 on Tuesday, when the Aces beat Bakersfield 4-2, racked up 23 points on four goals and 19 assists in 14 games during the month of January as Alaska went 12-2 to take over first place in the West Division and in the ECHL overall. Moving effortlessly between lines and positions throughout the month, he also finished +8 and accounted for the game-winning goal in back-to-back victories over Stockton January 20-21, then scored to help lead the National Conference to a 7-6 victory at the ECHL All-Star Game January 25.

A 5-10, 175-pounder out of Edmonton who played two years at the University of Wisconsin before finishing up his amateur career in the Western Hockey League, Leavitt enjoyed four games during the month where he notched at least three points. He registered a career-high five points with a goal and four assists in a 6-3 win over Stockton January 21 and also had two goals and two assists as the Aces beat San Diego January 8. Leavitt currently leads the league with 39 assists on the year and sits in a tie for sixth overall in the ECHL scoring race with linemate Mike Scott at 49 points. Leavitt also leads all ECHL rookies and ranks third in the entire league at +26 for the season.

Joe Talbot, the center on a line featuring Leavitt and Scott, finished runner-up for CCM Tacks Player of the Month after scoring 14 goals during the month of January to go along with seven assists and a +5 rating. Talbot also had two game-winners and the first hat trick of his three-year pro career in a 7-0 whitewash of Augusta January 28.
