Augusta Lynx News Release

BJ Gaustad scored twice for Augusta, but it was Sam Ftorek's overtime heroics combined with a big performance from Mike Wall that lifted the club past the Victoria Salmon Kings 4-3 in an overtime duel on Friday night.

The teams would trade first period goals, starting just 29 seconds into the opening frame. Steve Roberts shoved the puck in over the line past Wall after the initial shot from Lanny Gare remained sitting against Wall's pad with him unable to cover.

Gaustad came back for the Lynx at 3:56, just seconds after Augusta's first power play chance expired. Chris Leinweber and Ken Scuderi helped set up the goal, with Gaustad knocking in the rebound off Leinweber's point shot by slapping it in out of the air in front of the Salmon Kings net.

Gaustad started the middle frame with his second marker of the night, pushing a rebound past Rob McVicar just 33 seconds in with help from Joel Stepp and Dan Sullivan. Later in the period, Leinweber would fire a point shot past McVicar on the blocker side for a power play marker to make it 3-1 through 40 minutes of play. Brian Passmore and Ryan Lang helped set up the goal.

Victoria pulled within a goal with a power play marker at 3:39 with Ryan Wade beating Wall blocker side to make it 3-2, and tied the game at 17:28 on shot from the right point by Steve Lingren that found its way past Wall to force overtime.

In the extra session, Phil Cole fed a streaking Ftorek, who teed up a rocket and ripped it past McVicar blocker side to give the Lynx the 4-3 win. Wall stopped 40 shots to earn the win while McVicar stopped 25 in the loss.

Augusta finished the contest 1-for-4 on the power play while the Salmon Kings ended the evening at 1-for-5.

The two clubs will now play a third game to decide the season series tomorrow night starting at 10:05 pm, with the Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show starting one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
