Idaho Steelheads News Release

Estero, Florida - Defenseman Jarad Bourassa scored the game-winning goal in the sudden death shootout, and goaltender Matt Yeats stopped six of the seven shooters he faced to lead the Steelheads to a 5-4 come-from-behind victory over the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena on Saturday night.

For the second straight match against the Everblades (26-14-3), the Steelheads (25-14-5) trailed by three goals in the second period. But for the second consecutive match, they prevailed, improving to 2-3 in shootouts this season. The win allows the Steelheads to jump to 3-0-2 in their last five games, while the Everblades are still winless in their last five contests at 0-4-1.

Everblades' forward Dustin Johner opened the game's scoring just 96 seconds into the affair, on the game's first shot. His third goal of the series caromed off the far post and beat Yeats past his right pad. His eighth of the year was the only marker of the first period.

Daniel Sisca scored two, unassisted shorthanded goals 1:40 apart to give the Everblades some breathing room early in the second period. The shorthanded markers were the ninth and 10th of the season for the home team and the ninth and 10th allowed by the visitors.

The Steelheads second period rally started at 11:30 of the frame, as rookie Dan Hacker tallied his first ECHL goal on a wrist shot from the slot. Janos Vas and B.J. Crombeen then tallied power play goals in a span of just 1:44 to tie the contest. With six seconds left in the second period, David Bararuk punched home his 18th goal of the season to give the Steelheads their first lead at 4-3. All told, it was four goals in a span 8:24 to put the Steelheads in front, with forward Paul Caponigri assisting on three of them.

Overtime was scoreless as the Steelheads took two of the three shots in the extra session. The shootout marked the third time in the last four games that the Steelheads have gone past overtime with the game tied. The final shots were 37-34 in favor of the victors, as the Steelheads earned win number 14 away from Qwest Arena. D'Arcy McConvey and Kevin Bergin scored for their respective clubs through the first five shooters in the shootout. Matt Yeats finished with 30 saves for his 14th win of the season, while Everblades' goaltender Kevin Nastiuk dropped to 2-1-1, making 32 stops.

The Steelheads return to action on Saturday, February 3, as return to Germain Arena for the final game of this series. Faceoff is at 5:30 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1350 AM, "The Ticket," beginning approximately 20 minutes before the drop of the puck.
