Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH - The Bombers snapped their five game losing streak in style tonight by starting the month of February with an unbelievable 3-2 victory in a shootout. This marked the first time all season that the Bombers played in either an overtime game, or a shootout at the Nutter Center.

A healthy Mike Ayers returned to the lineup and once again was between the pipes. Early on he was quiet as the Bombers out shot the Chiefs 8-1 within the first seven minutes of the game, and one of those eight shots would give the Bombers a 1-0 lead.

Defenseman Mark Flood was activated of injured reserve as well and was an impact within the first five minutes of the game coming up with a beautiful tape-to-tape pass right to Scott Cameron coming out of the Bombers end to center ice.

From there Cameron crossed over towards the right wing and made another crisp pass to the stick of Jeff Szwez. With open ice on the right wing Szwez snapped a perfect wrist shot over the glove side shoulder of Chiefs goaltender Morgan Cey to give the Bombers an early 1-0 lead, the goal was his team leading 17th of the season.

The Bombers would have to defend their 1-0 lead early and often after being on the penalty kill six times alone in the second period. This was the first test for Ayers and he passed with flying colors until the last thirty seconds of the period.

At the 19:32 mark Dmitri Tarabrin would score his first of two on the night and on the power play as well ending up in the right place at the right time for a rebound to tie it at 1-1 after two periods of play.

It wouldn't take long for the Bombers to retake the lead in the third. Tyson Teplitsky extended his points streak to four games by scoring his 6th goal of the season at the 5:43 mark, assists to Kelly (3) and Szwez (16) to give the Bombers a 2-1 lead.

Moments later the Chiefs would tie it at 2-2 at the 12:10 mark. Each team would have their chances to break the tie, and Mike Ayers made the save of the season stacking the pads on a one timer from Ben Wallace to send it to OT.

The Bombers out shot the Chiefs 4-3 in overtime, but neither team could rip the cords and to the shoot out we went.

Mike Ayers entered the night ranked 2nd in the ECHL in shoot out save percentage at .875 and he was more than ready for another one. Ayers stopped all three shooters he faced and Brian Gornick and Jay Latulippe helped put it away, final score Bombers 3, Chiefs 2...

The Bombers continue their 15th Anniversary season in Johnstown tonight at 7:00. The game can be heard on the web at www.daytonbombers.com. Dayton Bombers Hockey, celebrating 15 years of fun.
