Aces' Leavitt Named CCM Vector ECHL Rookie Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Alex Leavitt of the Alaska Aces is the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for January.

The 5-foot-10 and 175-pound center had two game-winning goals with 19 assists and 23 points in 14 games as the Aces went 13-2-0 to move into first place in the ECHL with 69 points and a 33-6-3 record.

Leavitt, who turned 22-years-old on Jan. 31, scored in the first four games of the month (2g-6a), including a career-high two goals and four points at San Diego on Jan. 8. The four-game streak at the beginning of the month extended his career-best scoring streak to 10 games (3g-16a) and his career-best assist streak to 10 games (16a). He also had a six-game scoring streak (2g-11a) that included a career-high and team season-high four assists and five points in a 6-3 win against Stockton on Jan. 21.

Leavitt, who scored a goal to help the National Conference win 7-6 in the ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 25, has had 10 multiple-assist games and leads the ECHL with 39 assists while he ranks second among league rookies and tied for sixth overall with 49 points (10g-39a) in 43 games. He has a plus-minus rating of +26 which leads ECHL rookies and ranks third overall while his four game-winning goals tie him for third among rookies. He has 19 power-play assists which leads ECHL rookies and ties him for second overall while his 23 power-play points tie him for the rookie lead.

The native of Edmonton, Alberta played in the Western Hockey League with Swift Current from 2003-04 and with Everett from 2004-05 and scored 130 points (43g-87a) in 135 regular season games and 15 points (8g-7a) in 16 playoff games. He also played two seasons at the University of Wisconsin where he had 39 points (13g-26a) in 67 games from 2001-03.

Runners Up: Jamie Holden, Fresno (6-1-1, 2.48 GAA, .932 save pct.), Justin Aikins, Long Beach (11gp, 4g, 8a, 12 pts.) and Andy Franck, Wheeling (5-2-1, 2.02 GAA, .932 save pct.).
