Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Conference showdown continued between the Victoria Salmon Kings and the Augusta Lynx at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Victoria had a solid third period comeback, but the Lynx grabbed the game two victory, 4-3 in Overtime.

The Salmon Kings sounded the siren only 29 seconds into the first period with a second effort from Captain Ryan Wade, who banged away at the puck on the left post and slipped it past Netminder Mike Wall. Three and a half minutes later, Augusta got on the board just moments after a power play possession. BJ Gaustad batted in a rebound out of the air, from Defenseman Chris Leinweber's point shot. After twenty minutes, the battle was tied 1-1.

The Lynx let loose in the second and scored 33 seconds into the period. Gaustad posted his second goal of the night, pushing a rebound past Rob McVicar.

Leinweber added a third goal for the Lynx, as he was set up by Brian Passmore from behind the net on the power play. The Wall was up for much of the second period, despite Victoria out shooting Augusta 17-7 in the second frame.

Heading into the third down 3-1, the Victoria Salmon Kings capitalized on the power play. Kurt Drummond found Wade wide open in the slot, and Wade made no mistake in cashing in his second goal of the game.

With 2:32 remaining in regulation, Defenseman Steve Lingren wired a shot top corner from the right circle, and earned his 17th goal of the season.

The home crowd at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre was poised for its third of the last four games to head into extra periods.

Lynx Winger Sam Ftorek caught McVicar off guard and rippled the mesh 1:02 into the Overtime period, and earned Augusta its third OT win of the season.

Wall held Victoria to three goals despite facing 43 shots, and tallied his sixth win of the season. Augusta took 29 shots overall, and handed McVicar his eighth loss. Victoria went 1 for 4 with the man advantage, and Augusta scored once on five power play attempts.

The Salmon Kings and the Lynx play the rubber match Saturday February 4th at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The puck drops at 7:05 pm.
