Syracuse Crunch News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Toronto Marlies regained control of the season series with a 5-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

After going down by three in the first period, Carter Verhaeghe and Cory Conacher brought the team back within one, but were unable to overtake the Marlies and move to 21-10-2-0 on the season.

Eddie Pasquale stopped 20-of-24 shots in net for the Crunch. Eamon McAdam earned the win with 24 saves between the pipes for the Marlies. Syracuse converted on 1-of- 4 power play opportunities, while Toronto went 3-for-6 on the man-advantage.

Toronto built a three-goal lead in the first 20 minutes of play. The Marlies opened scoring after quick puck movement on the power play 6:09 into the game. Sam Gagner sent the puck down to Chris Mueller at the goal line. He quickly redirected it for Adam Brooks to net from the slot. At 12:23, Toronto double their lead during 5-on-3 play. Gagner fired through traffic where the puck bounced off a Crunch stick and in. Calle Rosen and Jeremy Bracco earned the assists.

With 36 seconds remaining in the first, Steve Oleksy scored on a slap shot from the high slot with the help of Dmytro Timashov and Stefan Leblanc.

The Crunch stole one back just seven seconds into the second period. Cameron Gaunce grabbed the puck after the opening faceoff and dumped it into the zone. McAdam went behind the cage to play it, but it ricocheted back out in front for Verhaeghe to chip into a wide-open net.

Syracuse pulled within one with a power-play goal of their own seven minutes later. Conacher ripped a rocket from the right circle off a feed from Gaunce. Verhaeghe made it a multi-point night on the play.

The Marlies went back up by two with another power-play goal late in the second period. Mueller tallied his second of the night when he shoveled in a backhander alone in front of the net. Gagner and Rosen recorded assists. With 1:10 remaining in the game, Brooks hit the empty net with the help of Gagner to secure a 5-2 win.

The Crunch travel to face the Binghamton Devils on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
