Colorado Eagles News Release
WINNIPEG, MB. - Manitoba forward Seth Griffith netted the game-winning goal two minutes into overtime as the Moose put an end to Colorado's eight-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory over the Eagles in overtime on Saturday. Colorado's point streak does continue, as the Eagles have now captured at least one point in the standings in each of their last 11 contests. Forwards A.J. Greer, Michael Joly and Erik Condra all found the back of the net in the losing effort.
The first period saw each team throw 11 shots on net, as Colorado was shut down on the lone power play of the opening 20 minutes of play. Neither side was able to find the back of the net and the Eagles and Moose would head to the first intermission with the game still scoreless.
A power play early in the second period would open the scoring, as Manitoba forward Andrei Chibisov would belt a shot from between the circles past Colorado goaltender Adam Werner to put the Moose on top 1-0 at the 5:17 mark of the middle frame.
The advantage would swell when Manitoba forward Brent Pedersen flew down the ice on a breakaway before lifting a shot past Werner to extend the Moose lead to 2-0 with 11:41 remaining in the second period.
The Eagles would finally put the brakes on the momentum when forward A.J. Greer smashed a rebound in the crease into the back of the net to slice the deficit to 2-1 at the 10:00 mark of the second stanza. Colorado would go on to outshoot Manitoba 11-3 in the period, but would head to the second intermission still trailing, 2-1.
Moose forward Kristian Vesalainen would quickly push Manitoba back up by a pair when he wrapped behind the net and unfurled a wrister from the right-wing circle that would light the lamp and give the Moose a 3-1 advantage at the 3:45 mark of the third period.
The Eagles would generate an answer just minutes later on the power play, as Joly would bury a wrist shot from the right circle through traffic to cut Manitoba's lead to 3-2 at the 8:08 mark of the final frame.
Colorado would then find the equalizer when Condra settled a rebound on top of the crease before feeding the puck past Moose goalie Mikhail Berdin to tie the game at 3-3 with 5:05 remaining in regulation.
As the game moved into sudden-death overtime, Griffith would streak down the right wing before cutting to the net a muscling a shot past Werner to give the Moose the 4-3 victory at the 2:00 mark of overtime.
Each team finished 1-for-3 on the power play, as the Eagles outshot Manitoba by a final count of 30-24.
The Eagles return to action when they return home to take on the Tucson Roadrunners on Friday, January 10th at 7:05pm MT at the Budweiser Events Center.
