Week in Review:
The South Carolina Stingrays won two out of the three games they played this week, yet find themselves in fifth place in the Southeast Division to start this week. The Rays began the week with a 7-4 win over the Greensboro Generals on Tuesday. The win, which featured a six goal second period, gave the team a share of second place. On Friday night in Augusta, the Stingrays lost a 3-2 third period lead and dropped a 5-3 decision to the Lynx. South Carolina finished the week with a 4-2 victory over first place Greenville. The win marked the second straight win for the Rays over the Grrrowl.
Team Notes:
The Stingrays have won five straight home games and have a record of 24-7-1 at the North Charleston Coliseum. 24 home wins are second in the ECHL behind only Louisiana (29). The Rays have a record of 5-1-2 in their last eight games and 5-1 in their last six. The team continues to struggle on the road with a record of 10-17-6 away from the Coliseum. The Stingrays have not won on the road since February 14th (6-3 @ Augusta). Since that game, the Rays have a road record of 0-4-3. The Stingrays are currently one point behind the fourth place Florida Everblades, with a game in hand and two points behind the Pee Dee Pride, which sits in third. South Carolina has seven games remaining in the regular season. Four games will be played at home, while three will take place on the road. The Stingrays have the best power play in the ECHL at 21.7% and the ninth ranked penalty kill at 83%. South Carolina had seven power play goals this week in 12 tries.
Players:
Brett Marietti has scored the game-winning goal in each of the Stingrays last four wins. Marietti netted his 20th goal of the season on Saturday night, marking the seventh time in his eight-year career that he has scored 20 or more goals. Ryan Brindley score three goals this week and is now among the leagues top scoring defensemen with 41 points on 14 goals and 27 assists. Brindley's 14 goals are tied for fifth in the league among defensemen. Dave Seitz is tied for the league lead in goals with 37 and is second in the ECHL in points with 85. Seitz had seven points on a goal and six assists this week. Goaltender Jamie Hodson has won his last four decisions.
This Week:
Mobile Tuesday, March 19, 2002 7:00 North Charleston Coliseum
This is the only meeting of the season between these two teams. Mobile has a record of 26-22-16 and is in sixth place in the Southwest division. The Stingrays took five games to defeat the Mysticks in the second round of last seasons Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Charlotte Friday, March 22, 2002 7:30 North Charleston Coliseum
Charlotte has a record of 37-17-10 and sits in second place in the Northeast Division. The Rays have a record of 3-2 against the Checkers this season. The Stingrays are 7-0 against the Northern Conference at home this year.
@ Pee Dee Saturday, March 23, 2002 7:30 Florence Civic Center
This is the final meeting of the season between these two teams. The Rays have a record of 5-2-1 against the Pride this year. Pee Dee is third place in the Southeast. South Carolina will look to snap a seven game road winless streak.
