Florida hosts Peoria on Tuesday and Louisiana on Friday and Saturday
The Florida Everblades continued their drive towards the Kelly Cup playoffs by winning two games last week. Florida started out the week in Pensacola where they fell to the Ice Pilots 5-4 on Friday night but defeated them 4-3 on Saturday night to earn a series split on the road. The Everblades then blanked the Peoria Rivermen at home last night 2-0 at TECO Arena. The Everblades jumped into fourth place in the Southeast Division after last night's victory. Following the game, the annual St. Patrick's Day Jersey Auction raised over $36,000 for three local charities. Florida plays game two of their two game series against the Rivermen on Tuesday night at TECO Arena. The puck drops at 7:00 PM. The Everblades then host the 2002 Brabham Cup Champion Louisiana Ice Gators next Friday and Saturday night at TECO Arena. Face off is set for 7:30 for both nights. All 72 regular season games can be heard on Sportsradio 770 AM, 98.9 FM and on the Internet at www.floridaeverblades.com with the "Voice of the Everblades" Mark Miller calling the play-by-play. Tuesday, March 19th vs. Peoria TECO Arena 7:00 PM/EST
GAME NOTES: The Everblades and Rivermen will meet for the second time in history in game two of the two game series between the two clubs. Florida defeated Peoria 2-0 this past Sunday night. The Rivermen (38-20-7) currently stand in second place in the ECHL's Northwest Division. The Rivermen have clinched a spot in the 2002 Kelly Cup playoffs. Forward Brett Myers leads the Rivermen in scoring with 29-25-54. He also leads the ECHL in power play goals with 15 and is tied for third in game-winning goals with 9. Their power play ranks 18th and their penalty kill ranks 8th. Peoria is 8-2-0 in their last ten games.
Friday, March 22nd vs. Louisiana TECO Arena 7:30 PM/EST
GAME NOTES: The Everblades and Ice Gators will meet for the first time this season. The Everblades hold a 3-4-2 All-Time record against the Ice Gators. The Everblades are 3-0-0 at TECO and 0-4-2 in Lousiana. Florida is 0-0-0 vs. Lousiana this season. Lousiana (51-11-4) currently stands in first place in the ECHL's Southwest Division. The Ice Gators have clinched the 2002 Brabham Cup given to the team with the best regular season record. Forward Jay Murphy leads the Ice Gators in scoring with 37-36-73 and is tied for first in the ECHL in goal scoring and leads the ECHL in game winning goals with 11. Their power play ranks 4th and their penalty kill ranks 2nd
. Louisiana is 6-3-1 in their last ten games.
Saturday, March 23rd vs. Louisiana TECO Arena 7:30 PM/EST
GAME NOTES: The Everblades and Ice Gators meet in Game Two of the two game series between the two clubs. It is Fan Appreciation Night at TECO Arena. Thousands of prizes will be given away. There will also be a Easter canned food drive, fans are encouraged to bring canned goods to donate.
LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
Friday, March 15 @ Pensacola 4-5 L
Pensacola scored two goals early in the third period to gain a three-goal lead as they held off the Everblades, winning 5-4. The victory was the fifth consecutive for Pensacola, while the Everblades lost for the fifth straight time.
Saturday, March 16th @ Pensacola 4-3 W
The Florida Everblades snapped a five game losing streak defeating the Pensacola Ice Pilots 4-3 in front of 4,381 at the Pensacola Civic Center.
Sunday, March 17th vs. Peoria 2-0 W
The Florida Everblades (35-25-6) shut out the Peoria Rivermen (38-20-7) 2-0 in front of 6,190 at TECO Arena on Sunday night. Everblades netminder Sean Matile recorded the shutout after stopping all 23 shots he faced.
ECHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION: The Everblades ECHL player of the week nomination is goaltender Sean Matile. The Vernon, B.C. native registered two wins this past week including a 2-0 shut out of the Peoria Rivermen on Sunday. He posted a 2-0 record with a 1.50 GAA and a .943 SPCT. Matile was the games #1 Star this past Sunday night.
EVERBLADES IN THE COMMUNITY: On Sunday, March 17th the Everblades hosted their annual St. Patrick's Day jersey auction following their game versus the Peoria Rivermen. The Everblades raised $36,100 during the auction. Proceeds raised from the jersey auction will be donated to Big Brother's and Big Sister's, MDA and the Boys and Girl's Club of Lee County. UPCOMING EVENTS/PROMOTIONS: On Tuesday night, Seminole Indian Casino will be giving away a trip to Las Vegas during the second intermission bingo game. On Saturday, March 23rd the Everblades will conclude the 2001-02 regular season with Fan Appreciation Night at TECO Arena. Thousands of prizes will be given away.
