Royals Drop Two on Road and One at Home

The Reading Royals salvaged this week with a win at home on Sunday, while dropping two games on the road Friday and Saturday. Friday the Royals suffered their worst loss of the season surrendering a season high seven goals in Roanoke. The Express beat the Royals for the fourth time in five tries 7-2. Saturday in Johnstown the Chiefs beat the Royals for the fifth straight time at home 4-2. Sunday afternoon in the Sovereign Center the Royals hosted the Greensboro Generals. The Generals scored three unanswered goals to beat Reading 3-2. This week the Royals take on Cincinnati at home on Tuesday then finish the week on the road in Richmond before landing in Atlantic City for back to back games Saturday and Sunday.

Tuesday, March 19 vs Cincinnati Sovereign Center 7:05PM
GAME NOTES: This is the final game of the season between the Royals and the Express and a must win for Reading in their drive for the Kelly Cup playoffs. Roanoke took the last two meetings from Reading on February 9 and February 15. The Express beat Reading on the 15th in Roanoke 6-2 behind three power play goals on 12 opportunities. The Royals are 1-3-0 against Roanoke with their loan win of the season in the Roanoke Civic Center on January 5.

Friday, March 22 @ Richmond Richmond Coliseum 7:35PM
GAME NOTES: This is the final meeting between these two Northeast Division rivals. Last time they met the Royals won for the first time in Richmond in overtime 3-2. Bryan Forslund tallied the game winner. The Royals hold the edge in this series three games to two.

Saturday, March 23 @ Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall 7:30PM
GAME NOTES: This game marks the sixth meeting between the Royals and Bullies and kicks off two games in two days between these two foes. Last time these two teams met the Royals blanked the Bullies 1-0 to pick up the third shutout this season. Alfie Michaud stopped 36 shots and the Royals killed off 13 Atlantic City power plays to get the win. The Royals lead in the series 3-2-1.

Sunday, March 24 @ Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall 3:00PM
GAME NOTES: The final meeting of eight between Reading and Atlantic City. Stefan Rivard leads all scorers in this series with two goals and nine points. The Royals are led by Brad Rooney who has posted four goals and seven points.

Friday, March 15 @ Roanoke Roanoke Civic Center 7:30PM
GAME NOTES: The Reading Royals lost for the third straight time to the Roanoke Express in a pivotal match-up for the Royals playoff hopes. Roanoke took advantage of a 5 on 3 advantage early posting a power play goal and an even strength goal to take a 2-0 lead in the first. The line of Rick Kowalsky (2g, 3a), Jeff Johnstone (2g, 2a) and Tim Verbeek (2g, 2a) combined for 13 points to pace the Express. The Royals finish the regular season series at 1-4-0 against Roanoke.

Saturday, March 16 @ Johnstown Cambria War Memorial 7:30PM
GAME NOTES: The eighth and final meeting between the Chiefs and the Royals was a tough battle to the finish. Johnstown prevailed 4-2 with two late goals in the third period. The Chiefs blanked the Royals in all five meetings in the old War Memorial outscoring them 23-11 in Johnstown. The Chiefs won the season series six games to two and claimed the first ever Keystone Cup (battle of Pennsylvania).

Sunday, March 17 vs Greensboro Sovereign Center 5:05PM
GAME NOTES: The Greensboro posted three unanswered goals to beat the Reading Royals for the second straight time 3-2 in the Sovereign Center in Reading. The Royals got goals from newcomer Ryan Carter and captain Bryan Forslund. The Royals finish the season series against the Generals 3-3-1.
