The Idaho Steelheads played three games last week. On Wednesday, Idaho lost 4-3 in a shootout to the San Diego Gulls at the Sports Arena. On Friday, Idaho was thumped 6-1 by the Fresno Falcons. On Saturday the Steelheads rebounded with a solid 4-1 win over Fresno at Selland Arena.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday night the Idaho Steelheads battled hard to emerge with a point in a 4-3 shootout loss to the San Diego Gulls at the Sports Arena in front of 3,582 fans. Idaho came from behind three times to tie the game and earn the point in their final regular season game versus the Gulls. The Steelheads are now 41-13-7 on the season with a league high total of 89 points and they finish up 4-2-2 versus the Gulls in 01-02. In the first period San Diego struck first when Black scored at 5:20. Idaho answered back when Cal Ingraham (19) potted a power play goal at 8:18. Purdie put the Gulls back on top with a rebound goal on a power play at 14:13 to make it 2-1 San Diego after one period. In the second period Idaho tied it up when Garry Toor (9) scored an unassisted shorthanded goal just 59 seconds into the frame. In the third period Purdie scored his second of the night on a power play at 13:45 to make it 3-2 Gulls. It took Idaho just 18 seconds to answer as Wes Dorey (15) converted a great feed from Scott Burt at 14:03 to tie the game at 3-3. The game went to a shootout and the Gulls dominated as all three San Diego shooters scored and Gulls net minder Trevor Koenig turned aside three of four Idaho shooters. FINAL SCORE San Diego 4, Idaho 3 in a shootout. Blair Allison was between the pipes for Idaho his record is now 31-9-5. Koenig got the win to improve to 34-15-3, his 34 wins lead the league. Idaho went 1-6 on the power play while San Diego went 2-11.

FRIDAY Friday night the Idaho Steelheads were blasted 6-1 by the Fresno Falcons in front of 6,382 fans at Selland Arena. Former Steelhead Dan Kerluke scored the game winner versus his old team as the Falcons evened their home ice record at 13-13-3. Idaho now drops to 41-14-7 on the season. The Falcons came out smoking in the first period as Junkin scored on a rebound at 6:27 to make it 1-0. The Falcons continued their assault when Kerluke picked up a loose puck and slammed it home at 10:43 to make it 2-0. With less than a minute to go in the period Tocher scored on a wrist shot at 19:52 to make it 3-0 Fresno after one period of play. The Falcons out shot Idaho 9-1 over the final 17 minutes of the period and 10-6 overall in the frame. In the second period the Steelheads put on a charge out shooting Fresno 14-5 in the frame, but it was the Falcons who capitalized. Frederick scored a power play goal at 3:37 to make it 4-0, then Frederick scored a shorthanded goal at 13:12 to make it 5-0 after two periods of play. In the third period Porter scored a power play goal just 18 seconds in to make it 6-0 Fresno. The Steelheads finally got on the board when Kevin Smyth redirected one home on a shot from the wall by Dan Shermerhorn at 5:47 for the power play marker to make it 6-1. FINAL SCORE Fresno 6, Idaho 1. Blair Allison was between the pipes for Idaho his record is now 31-10-5. Terry Friesen played very well in net to post the win and improve to 14-5-4. Idaho went 1-6 on the power play while Fresno went 3-7.

SATURDAY Saturday night the Steelheads rebounded from a tough loss the night before with an outstanding effort in a 4-1 win over Fresno in front of 7,008 at Selland Arena. Blair Allison was brilliant turning aside 36 of 37 shots to help Idaho record the win. The Steelheads finish their five game road trip with a 3-1-1 record and are now 42-14-7 on the season with a league high total of 91 points. In the first period to Falcons out shot Idaho 7-0 over the first five minutes, but it was the Steelheads who scored first when Dan Shermerhorn (21) scored at 5:28 on the first shot of the game for Idaho. The Falcons evened the game when Porter scored on a five-on-three power play at 16:25. The first period was choppy as 10 minor penalties were called. Fresno out shot Idaho 14-6 in the frame. In the second period Idaho took the lead with a man advantage goal when Bobby Stewart stuffed in a rebound for his team leading 34th at 1:22. In a rare moment of even strength play Kevin Smyth (7) backhanded one home at 5:27 to make it 3-1 Idaho. The teams combined for seven power play chances in the second period. Fresno out shot Idaho 12-8. In the third period Allison continued to make big saves and stymie the Falcons. Stewart (35) wrapped it up with an empty netter to seal the win at 19:32. FINAL SCORE Idaho 4, Fresno 1. Allison got the win to improve to 32-10-5. Terry Friesen took the loss to fall to 14-6-4. Idaho went 1-8 on the power play while Fresno went 1-11.

Next Up For Idaho The Steelheads return home and take on Colorado on Wednesday. The Steelheads continue their home stand with games Friday and Saturday with Bakersfield.

THIS SEASON— The Steelheads trail the season series 4-7-2, including a 3-2-1 mark at the BofA Centre.

COMING INTO 01-02 – All-time coming into 01-02 Idaho is 15-17-0 versus the Gold Kings, including a 13-5-0 mark at the BofA Centre.

Vs. Bakersfield

THIS SEASON— The Steelheads lead the season series 4-0-1. Idaho is 2-0-0 at the BofA Centre.

COMING INTO 01-02 – All-time coming into 01-02 Idaho is 18-8-3 versus the Condors, including 11-3-1 at the BofA Centre.

North Versus South

Idaho is 23-8-4 versus the Northern and 19-6-3 versus the Southern division this year.

Public Skate

The Steelheads will participate in the Simplot Public Skate on Sunday, March 24th at the BofA Centre. Several players will be present to assist with the Micron Science and Sports Demonstration, which will take place during the skate session. Skating is free and there will be limited skate rental available at the rink, cost for skate rental is 3 dollars.
