Friday November 8th Wheeling 4 @ Johnstown 1

This was the Nailers seventh road game of the season having gone winless in their first six. Johnstown scored a two-man advantage power play goal at 2:20 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Wheeling, winless in their last five games, scored two first period goals to take a 2-1 lead. Mario LaRocque tied the game 1-1 with a power play goal from Ryan Gillis and Chris McNamara at 8:17. McNamara scored his first goal of the game at 12:40 to give the Nailers a 2-1 lead. Derek Ernest and LaRocque assisted on the goal. The Nailers scored the only goal of the second period to increase their lead to 3-1. Gillis scored on the power play at 12:28 from McNamara and J.P. Soucy. McNamara ended the scoring with his second goal and fourth point of the night at 18:18 of the third period. Arpad Mihaly assisted on the final goal. Mike Valley made 36 saves on 37 shots in the Nailers first road win of the season.

Saturday,November9

Wheeling 3 @ Roanoke 2 (SO)

Bobby Russell scored his first two goals as a Nailer in the first period of this game to give the Nailers a 2-0 lead. The first goal was scored at 7:24 with Mark Major assisting. Russell's second goal was at 16:13 with Major and Zenon Konopka assisting. Roanoke cut their deficit to one goal at 2-1 in the second period. Joe Dusbabek scored at 14:41 from Dan Sullivan and Brad Essex. Roanoke tied the game 2-2 with less than one minute remaining in the third period while on the power play and their goalie pulled for an extra attacker. Former Wheeling Nailer Dylan Gyori scored the goal to force the overtime. Neither team scored in the overtime and the game went to a shootout. The Nailers got shootout goals from Arpad Mihaly and Mike Nelson while Mike Valley made four saves on four Roanoke shots for the win. In the game Valley made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Sunday, November 10

Cincinnati 3 @ Wheeling 4

For the second consecutive night the Nailers took a lead on a Bobby Russell goal. Russell scored a power play goal at 5:05 of the first period from Mark Major and Ryan Gillis for the 1-0 lead. The Cyclones added a power play goal of their own before the first period ended to tie the game 1-1. In the second period the Cyclones took the lead at 2-1 with the only goal scored in the period. Cincinnati increased their lead to 3-1 early in the third period on an even strength goal by Evan Cheverie. The Nailers came back with three goals in a 2:04 span for a 4-3 lead. Arpad Mihaly scored a power play goal at 7:00 from Zenon Konopka to make it a 3-2 game. Chris McNamara tied the game 3-3 at 8:37 from Steve Crampton and Konopka. The Nailers completed the comeback with a Mark Major goal at 9:04. J.P. Soucy and Konopka assisted on the Major goal. Mike Valley made 28 saves on 31 shots for the Nailers third win in three nights.

PREVIEW OF UPCOMING NAILERS GAMES November 11-November 17

Friday,November15

Wheeling @ Dayton 7:30p.m.

The Nailers travel to Dayton for the second time this season having lost there on 4-1 on October 12. The second meeting of the season against the Bombers was on November 3. The Bombers won 3-2 in overtime. This is the third of eight meetings of the season against the Bombers with the Nailers 0-1-1 against them.

Saturday, November 16

Peoria @ Wheeling 7:30p.m.

The Nailers have played the Rivermen twice this season, both at home, with the Rivermen winning the first game 6-1in Wheeling. The Nailers won the second game 6-5 in a shootout at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh.

Sunday, November 17

Peoria @ Wheeling 6:00p.m.

The Nailers host the Rivermen for the second straight night and fourth time this season. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a Pittsburgh Penguins Calendar and fans will be able to skate with members of the Nailers team after the game.

Player of the Week

The Nailers Player of the Week is Chris McNamara. McNamara scored three goals for the Nailers last week, including the game-winning goal in Johnstown on Friday night. He also had two assists for the week for total of five points while playing at a +3.

Goaltender of the Week

The Nailers Goaltender of the Week is Mike Valley. Valley and the Nailers went 3-0-0 in three games last week. Valley made 93 saves on 99 shots for a save percentage of .939. He also had a goals against average of 1.95 for the week.
