Stingrays Wrap Up Busy Week 3-1

Columbus Tuesday, November 12 7:00 North Charleston Coliseum

Third game of the season between these two teams. Stingrays beat the Cottonmouths 3-2 in a shootout on October 19th in Charleston and 2-1 in overtime in Columbus Sunday. Columbus has a road record of 3-2-1 and has won its last two on the road. Stingrays have lost three out of their last four home games. Rays are 5-3 at the Coliseum.

Columbus: Record (7-3-2) Last Game: 2-1 Overtime loss vs. South Carolina 11/10
At the Coliseum: Two for Tuesday, Two for one Tickets and Hot Dogs and Two Dollar Beers.

@ Pee Dee Friday, November 15 7:30 Florence Civic Center

Second game of the season between these two teams. The Stingrays knocked off the Pride 5-4 in a shoot out on October 19th in Florence. Two of the top offenses in the league averaging over four goals per game. Stingrays have a one point lead over the Pride for first place in the division.

Columbia Saturday, November 16 7:30 North Charleston Coliseum

Second game of the season between these two teams. South Carolina exploded for eight goals in an 8-1 victory over the Inferno on November 8. Columbia had a record of 5-2-1 against South Carolina last season. Rays are 7-2 against the Southeast Division.

Last Week in Review:

South Carolina began last week with a 5-3 victory on the road in Charlotte. The win was the third straight road win for the Rays. Joel Irving scored a hat trick and Dean Weasler made 42 saves in his first win as a Stingray. On Friday night, the Stingrays blasted the Columbia Inferno 8-1. Andy Powers and Robin Gomez each scored two goals in the win. The Stingrays snapped a two game winning streak with a 3-2 loss to the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday at the Coliseum. The Rays finished the week with a 2-1 overtime win in Columbus. Brad Williamson netted the game winner for the Stingrays third win of the week.

Team Notes:

The Stingrays have now won four straight road games to begin the season. Three of the four road wins have come in extra time with one win in overtime and two in shootouts. South Carolina is 7-2 against the Southeast Division. The Rays have the league's number one power play, but have not scored a power play goal in their last two games. The team allowed just eight goals in four games this week. The Rays have not allowed power play goals against in 11 periods. The Stingrays have outscored their opponents 14-5 in the third period.

Players:

Joel Irving scored four goals this week against the Charlotte Checkers, his first four goals of the season. Dean Weasler went 1-1 in his first two starts as a Stingray. Goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck allowed only two goals in two starts this week winning both games. He now has a record of 8-2 and is among the league leaders in goals against average. Trevor Johnson finished the week for the Stingrays with two goals and three assists and was a plus eight in four games. Robin Gomez scored his first two goals as a professional last week against Columbia.
