Reading Royals News Release
READING, PA â The Reading Royals have agreed to terms with center Geoff Peters, formerly of the UK's Manchester Storm (BISL). Peters was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round, 46 overall in 1996. Last season, he scored 13 goals and 34 points in 43 games with the Trenton Titans.
Peters also appeared in 10 games with the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans. Peters, 24, of St. Catharines, Ontario, was picked up from the Manchester Storm, which dissolved early this month due to financial problems. Some of Peters' other career achievements include:
· Drafted second overall in the 1994 OHL draft by the Niagara Falls Thunder
· Member of Team Canada Under 18 at the Pacific Cup in Japan, 1995, where he had six PIMs and 0 points in 5 games.
· Captain of Team Ontario at the Canada Winter Games 1995 in Grande Prairie, Alberta
· First OHL hat trick recorded March 2, 1996 -- Niagara Falls Thunder vs. Barrie. He scored two even-strength goals and one power play goal. Niagara Falls won the game 8-4
· Niagara Falls Thunder Most Determined Player Award 1995-96
· First pro goal scored March 27,1999 for the Portland Pirates against Lowell (AHL)
Royals Head Coach David Lohrei said Peters' is a skilled player who can put up points. "He is a guy that has played on the next level and has been effective in my opinion," Lohrei said. "You can never have enough guys who can score. Peters makes us a more dangerous team, and I think he will compliment the guys we have very well."
"We are fortunate to acquire a player of Geoff's caliber at this juncture in the season," Royals General Manager Ray Delia said. "His addition will create added depth within our hockey club." Peters' debut with the Reading Royals will be Friday, Nov. 15, when the Royals face off against the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies at 7:05 p.m. in the Sovereign Center.
