Promising Start to Home Stand Unravels

November 11, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

The Fresno Falcons began the longest home stand in franchise history with four consecutive victories. Then the ghosts and goblins of Halloween hit and the team lost four of its last five during the nine-game stint at home, including three one-goal decisions this past week.

The Anchorage Aces arrived at Selland Arena last Tuesday nursing a seven-game losing streak but prevailed in come-from-behind fashion with two unanswered goals in the third period to beat the Falcons, 4-3. Fresno then faced off against the Bakersfield Condors in a two-game set on Friday and Saturday and lost a pair of 2-1 hockey games. The Falcons are now 0-4 versus their Highway 99 rivals.

Fresno has seen its record drop to .500 at 5-5-0, with four of the five setbacks determined by one goal. They begin the week in a tie for fourth place in the WCHL with the Long Beach Ice Dogs.

UPCOMING WEEK HIGHLIGHTED BY TWO MORE SHOTS AT THE CONDORS

The Falcons hit the road for the first time in exactly a month tomorrow night as they travel south to face the San Diego Gulls. The game can be heard live on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-game Show.

The team then sets its sights on solving the Condors with a home-and-home series beginning on Friday in Bakersfield followed by a re-match the next evening at Selland Arena. The first 5,000 fans at Saturday's game will receive a free pair of ThunderStix courtesy of Pelco.

Friday's game will be tape delayed on The Mountain Cat starting at approximately 10:30 p.m. while Saturday's contest will be broadcast live beginning at 7:20 p.m. with the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-game Show.

FRIESEN CONTINUES TO SHINE

While he has a .500 winning percentage just like his team (4-4-0), goaltender Terry Friesen is one Falcon that has played well enough to deserve a better fate. He held Fresno in both games over the weekend, stopping 57 of 61 shots, including a season-high 19 saves during the third period Friday night. Friesen is currently second in the league with a save percentage of 91.4%.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE

The Falcons will practice at 10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday at Gateway Ice Center before shifting to Selland Arena for a 10 a.m. pre-game skate on Saturday morning.
