Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release
Kingfish's Leaders: Clark Jones leads the Kingfish in scoring with 12 points off 6 goals and 6 assists. Wes Scanzano and Glenn Crawford are tied for second place with 10 points apiece. Scanzano pushed his total to 10 as he added a goal on Saturday against Pensacola, while Crawford added two assists on Sunday against Arkansas.
The Rookie Help: Wes Scanzano continues to pick up points here and there and is currently tied for 12th place among rookies in scoring with 10 points. Scanzano picked up another goal Saturday night in the Kingfish's 3-2 shootout loss vs. Pensacola.
Snap the Streak: The Kingfish broke their drought on the power play on Sunday. Baton Rouge had gone 0-28 on the power play in its previous five games. The Kingfish went 0-4 on their first four power play opportunities against the RiverBlades before converting on their last opportunity of the game. Forrest Gore broke the âgoose egg' at the 8:43 mark of the third period. On October 31st, the Kingfish were in third place in the ECHL, converting on 25% of their power play opportunities. The Kingfish are currently in 17th place, converting on 17.2 % of their power play opportunities.
Throw Politeness out the Window: Kingfish defenseman Garnet Jacobson continues to add to his penalty minute total. He picked up 9 penalty minutes in Tuesday's loss vs. Columbia surpassing John Rempel's 246 minutes and moving him into fifth place for most penalty minutes as a Kingfish with 247. Jacobson has added to his mark and is currently 93 penalty minutes shy of fourth place behind Keith Bland (342).
Can't Slow Him Down: Kingfish defenseman Trevor Demmans is tied for 10th place among defensemen in scoring in the ECHL despite missing the past four games. Demmans sustained a lower leg injury on November 2nd at Jackson. Demmans has 9 points on 2 goals and 7 assists in just 10 games.
For the Record: Kingfish left wing Clark Jones is on pace to set a Kingfish single season record for most power play goals in a season. Through 14 games, Jones has tallied 4 power play goals and if he continues on that pace, he would finish the season with 21 power play goals. Mike Rucinski's 13 goals in the 2000-01 season is the most by a Kingfish in a single season.
Milestones: Kingfish forward Bryan Richardson needs just 5 assists for 100 as a Kingfish. He is currently 3rd for most assists as a Kingfish behind Cam Brown (158), and Jon Sturgis (101). 20 goals this season will give Richardson 100 goals as a Kingfish. Richardson is just 14 goals shy of the 100-goal plateau. Richardson is second only to Kingfish Head Coach Cam Brown (103) for goals scored as a Kingfish. Brown owns the franchise record with 139 goals.
