Friday, October 25 Wheeling 3 @ Toledo 4
The first of nine regular season meetings between the Storm and the Nailers was played in Toledo with the Storm winning the game 4-3. All four of Toledo's goals were scored in the first period to give them a 4-0 lead after one period of play. Erik Anderson scored the first goal at 2:11 just as a Nailers penalty had expired. The Storm scored two more even strength goals at 7:59 and 14:17 to increase their lead to 3-0. The final goal of the period and of the game for Toledo was a power play goal at 19:55 of the first period to give Toledo a 4-0 lead. The Nailers had a third period rally by scoring three times but came up just a bit short. Tim Preston scored the Nailers first two goals. Preston scored at 6:18 from Steve Crampton and J..P. Soucy and again at 16:26 from Crampton and Brian Cummings. Mike Nelson scored the final Nailers goal at 17:48 from Arpad Mihaly to make it a 4-3 game. Mike Valley made 26 saves on 30 shots in the loss.
Saturday, October 26 Atlantic City 2 @ Wheeling 3
The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies made their first trip of the season to Wheeling having already beaten the Nailers 8-2 in Atlantic City on October 18. In the second of three regular season meetings neither team scored in the first period of play. The Boardwalk Bullies took a 1-0 lead at 1:49 of the second period on a Kevin Colley goal. The Nailers answered back with goals 19 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead. Zenon Konopka scored the first goal at 2:52 from Chris McNamara and Mark Major to tie the game 1-1. Steve Crampton scored his first goal of the season at 3:11 to give the Nailers a 2-1 lead. Tim Preston and Brian Cummings assisted on the Crampton goal. Mike Valley recorded his second win of the season by making 29 saves on 31 shots.
Sunday, October 27 Reading 3 @ Wheeling 2 in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
The Nailers played their first of two home games in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and their second of three home games away from Wheeling to close out the weekend. The Nailers hosted the Reading Royals for the second game in the season series. Reading won the first game of the season 7-3 in Reading. This game was scoreless through one period of play with the Royals out shooting the Nailers 16-8. In the second perod the Nailers took a 2-0 lead on a pair of power play goals. Mario LaRocque scored the first goal at 4:31of the secon period while the Nailers had a two-man advantage power play. The goals was assisted by Chris McNamara and Zenon Konopka. The Nailers extended their lead to 2-0 on a McNamara power play goal at 15:26. LaRocque and Mark Major assisted on the second goal. In the third period the Royals came from behind to take the lead on two power play goals and one even strength goal. The power play goals were scored at 8:53 and 12:20 with the final goal being scored at 17:00 to give the Royals the 3-2 win. David Chant made 29 saves on 32 shots in the loss.
PREVIEW OF UPCOMING NAILERS GAMES October 28-November 3
Wednesday, October 30 Wheeling @ Trenton 7:00p.m.
This will be the first of four meetings of the season against the Titans for the Nailers with two of the games in Trenton, one in Wheeling and one in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Last season the Nailers were 2-2-0 against the Titans and are 6-9-0 all time against Trenton.
Friday, November 1 Wheeling @ Reading 7:05p.m.
The Nailers travel to Reading for the second time this season for the third game in the season series. The Royals beat the Nailers 7-3 in Reading in the first game of the regular season. In the second game the Royals won 3-2 in a Nailers home game in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The teams will face each other three more times after this game.
Saturday, November 2 Toledo @ Wheeling 7:30p.m.
The Nailers are 0-1-0 against the Storm this season, having lost the first game 4-3 in Toledo. The first 2,500 fans in attendance at this game will receive a pair of Thunder Sticks courtesy of WTRF-7. After this game the Nailers and the Storm will play each other seven more times.
Sunday, November 3 Dayton @ Wheeling 6:00p.m. The Bombers handed the Nailers an 8-2 loss in the first meeting of the season series in Dayton on October 12. This is the second of eight regular season meetings between these teams. After the game fans are invited to skate with the Nailers. All fans bringing their own skates to the game will have an opportunity to skate on the Civic Center ice.
Player of the Week
The Nailers Player of the Week is Tim Preston. Preston scored two of the Nailers three goals in a 4-3 loss at Toledo on Friday night. On Saturday night he had one assist in a 3-2 win against Atlantic City. For the week he had three points on two goals and one assist while playing at a +1.
Goaltender of the Week
The Nailers Goaltender of the Week is Mike Valley. Valley went 1-1-0 on the weekend in his only two appearances. On Friday in Toledo he made 26 saves on 30 shots in a 4-3 loss. On Saturday, Valley made 29 saves on 31 shots in a 3-2 win at home against the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. For the week Valley made 55 saves on 61 shots for a .902 save percentage and a 3.00 goals against average.
