Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Idaho Steelheads permitted Anchorage just 16 shots and Joe Rybar had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over the Aces Sunday evening at Sullivan Arena.

As they had in the first two games of this series (6-3 and 5-2 victories), the Steelheads jumped out to an early lead as Rybar found Chris Marinucci alone in the slot only 3:22 into the game. Dan Shermerhorn beat Christian Soucy with a perfect shot tucked just underneath the crossbar at 14:02 of the first period to give Idaho a 2-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes.

Yvan Corbin scored his fifth goal of the year at 4:49 of the middle frame to slice the gap to one, but he would be the only Ace to solve Jason Cugnet, who out-dueled Soucy with several fine saves, including a point-blank denial of Kimbi Daniels late in the second period. Michal Pinc sealed the victory for the Steelheads with another deadly accurate shot top shelf at 13:20 of the final period. Rybar's empty-netter with 9.3 seconds left capped the scoring. Anchorage converted just one of nine power play chances and managed only one shot during a four-minute opportunity early in the third period with the score still 2-1. The Aces have lost all five games against Idaho this year and are 2-16-1 in their last 19 meetings head-to-head at Sullivan Arena.

Anchorage will not return home until November 15th, when the club begins a five-games-in-six-nights stretch against San Diego and Long Beach (1-2), its opponent next week. The Aces and Ice Dogs will hook up in the first of a three-game set at Long Beach Arena Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. ADT. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
