Smith Makes History, Men O\' War Go Unbeaten

Lexington, KY- The Lexington Men O' War wrote more than a page in their history book this weekend. The MOW recorded their first win and first shutout this weekend. Goalie Mike Smith scored into an empty net on Saturday to provide the MOW with their most historic moment to date. Over the weekend, the MOW earned five points in three games to catapult from 7th to 4th in the Northwest Division standings. The MOW play three road games in three nights this weekend. On Thursday, the MOW travel to Johnstown to take on the Chiefs. Friday, the MOW will be in Greensboro to play the Generals. The MOW will make their only visit of the season to Atlantic City on Saturday.

Oct. 25-Men O' War 2, Bombers 1

Dayton, OH-The Men O' War picked up their first win in dramatic fashion with a 2-1 win in Dayton. Kevin Knopp scored the game winner with 12.7 seconds to go in the game.

Oct. 26-Men O' War 2, Bombers 0

Lexington, KY-The Lexington Men O' War beat the Dayton Bombers 2-0 on Saturday. Lexington goaltender Mike Smith was the biggest difference in the game shutting out the Bombers on 21 saves and scoring the second goal of the game.

Oct. 27-Men O' War 2, Renegades 3 OT

Lexington, KY-Richmond Renegades captain Brad Church scored 2:18 into overtime to defeat the Lexington Men O' War 3-2 on Sunday night. Mark Smith and Joe Vandermeer scored in the loss.

The Shot Heard ‘Round the World

Lexington Men O' War goalie Mike Smith made professional hockey history Saturday at Rupp Arena during Lexington's 2-0 win over the Dayton Bombers. Making his third ever professional start, Smith shutout the Bombers, recorded his first win and scored his first goal. Smith, 20, became the first ever goalie in the history of professional hockey to post a shutout and score a goal within the confines of his first professional win. In addition, the 20-year-old, 5th round draft pick of the Dallas Stars (2001) became the youngest goalie ever to score a goal in a game, which coincided with the Men O' War's first ever home win at Rupp Arena after an 0-2-1 start. The goal was the first ever scored by a goaltender at Rupp Arena.

Upcoming Games ......

The MOW will have their first extended road trip this weekend with three games in three nights on the road. The MOW will travel a total of 2,218 miles this weekend. The trip begins in Johnstown on Thursday. The Chiefs currently lead the MOW by one point in the Northwest Division standings. On Friday, the team travels to Greensboro to face the Generals. On opening weekend the MOW went 0-1-1 against the Generals. On Saturday, the MOW will visit Atlantic City to face the Boardwalk Bullies. This marks the only time this season the Bullies and MOW will face each other.

MOW Tracks ......

The MOW defense is second in the ECHL in GAA allowing just 2.3 goals against per game...The Lexington penalty kill is 4th best in the league on the road and 7th best overall...Both MOW goalies are in the top ten in GAA. Mike Smith is 8th (2.19) and Dan Murphy is 10th (2.27). Smith also ranks 4th in save percentage (.936)...Kevin Knoop is tied for 3rd in plus-minus among ECHL defensemen (+5)
