Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â The Anchorage Aces will be attempting to break a four-game losing streak when the club visits Long Beach Wednesday night.
Anchorage lost its sixth straight home opener Friday night before 5,991 (222 short of a sellout) by a score of 6-3 as Idaho overcame two goals by Yvan Corbin and three assists from Dean Larson. The Aces fell 5-2 the next night as Larson scored both goals, the second of which briefly tied the game late in the second period. The Steelheads polished off the three-game sweep with a 4-1 win Sunday. Corbin scored the only Anchorage goal as his team was held to a season-low 16 shots. The Aces have lost all five games against Idaho this year and have been outscored 25-10 and outshot 168-99 in the process.
Larson leads the West Coast Hockey league in scoring with 10 points on five goals and five assists while Corbin sits in a tie for second with nine (5g-4a). Linemate Carl Drakensjo leads the team and is tied for fourth in the league with a +4 rating. The Aces will next appear at Sullivan Arena November 15th, when the club begins a five-games-in-six-nights stretch against San Diego (0-3-1 last week) and Long Beach (1-2), its opponent next week. The Aces and Ice Dogs will hook up in the first of a three-game set at Long Beach Arena Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. ADT. Friday night's game will begin at 6:30 p.m. ADT, with Saturday's series finale scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ADT.
Anchorage (1-6) finishes up the four-game California swing Monday night at 6:00 p.m. ADT in Fresno, where the Taylor Cup champion Falcons have won three in a row, including a 6-3 decision over the Aces, since losing their season opener. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and over the internet at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
