LAST WEEK â Grrrowl follow a 4-2 loss in Charleston with back-to-back wins over Columbus The Greenville Grrrowl dropped a 4-2 decision to the South Carolina Stingrays in Charleston,SC on Tuesday, then scored 7 goals in each of their next two games. Friday, the Grrrowl dumped the Columbus Cottonmouths 7-4 at the BI-LO Center. Then, the defending Kelly Cup Champions opened a 7-1 third period lead, and held on for a 7-5 win at the Columbus Civic Center on Saturday.
TUESDAY: Dave Seitz scored the game-winning goal for the South Carolina Stingrays on a penalty shot with 2:44 remaining in the third period...
FRIDAY: ALEXANDRE BURROWS recorded 1 goal, 2 assists, 3 points and first star honor as the Grrrowl dumped the Southeast Division rival Columbus Cottonmouths 7-4 at the BI-LO Center...
SATURDAY: JONATHAN ROY has points in 6 of Greenville's 7 games (4-5-9 PTS.). He scored a first period powerplay goal, and the Grrrowl beat the Cottonmouths 7-5 in Columbus. Greenville went 5 for 14 on the powerplay.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK â RW ALEX BURROWS
The rookie forward recorded 1 assist ina 4-2 loss at South Carolina on Tuesday, 1 goal and 2 assists ina 7-4 win over Columbus on Friday, and 1 assist in a 7-5 win at Columbus on Saturday. In 3 games last week, the 21-year old Quebec native scored 1-4-5 pts. Burrows played last season with the Shawinigan Cataractes.
COACH JOHN MARKS SAID: On the games... "We proved we can score with 14 goals in the past two games, and now we have to prove we can prevent. We need to learn from these games how to play with the lead."
On the scoring distribution... "I don't like throwing all my eggs in one basket and we certainly don't have to with this team. Anytime you have three lines capable of scoring you're a step ahead."
THIS WEEK â Back-to-back home games this weekend
The Greenville Grrrowl host the Charlotte Checkers on Friday (7:05 PM) and the Pee Dee Pride Saturday (7:05 PM) at the BI-LO Center. Greenville beat Charlotte, 1-0, by virtue of forfeit on opening night (10/11) when it was determined the Checkers dressed an ineligible player (Paul Traynor) for that game. Tickets for all Grrrowl home games are on sale at the BI-LO Center Box Office and all TicketMaster outlets.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1st : The Grrrowl and Charlotte Checkers prepare for their 2nd of 5 regular season meetings... Greenville beat Charlotte, 1-0, opening night (10/11/02) at Cricket Arena...The game was forfeited when it was determined defenseman Paul Traynor was dressed as an ineligible player on the Checkers roster... Coach Don MacAdam's club is 2-2-1, 5 points after 5 games with no games scheduled between now and Friday's date with the Grrrowl...The Checkers are on a modest 2-game winning streak... TAKAHITO SUZUKI is tied for 3rd in the ECHL rookie scoring race with 4-4-8 PTS. in 5 games.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd: The Grrrowl and Pee Dee Pride prepare for their first of 8 regular season meetings... The Pride are 4-2-1, 9 points after 7 games with 2 games scheduled before Saturday's trip to the BI-LO Center... On Thursday, Pee Dee travels to Greensboro, before returning home to host Augusta on Friday... The Pride are 4-0-1 when scoring first... Greenville has scored a league-high 12 first period goals, while Pee Dee is second in the ECHL with 11 first period markers... Both the Grrrowl (4.57 GF/game) and Pride (4.29 GF/game) are averaging over 4 goals per game.
