Growlers Roll Past Railers 4-0
April 1, 2022 - ECHL (ECHL)
Newfoundland Growlers News Release
The Newfoundland Growlers started their six-game home stand on the right foot with a 4-0 win over the Worcester Railers on Friday night at Mary Brown's Centre.
Zach O'Brien opened the scoring for Newfoundland just three minutes into the game as Tyler Boland sprung him in behind the Worcester defence with a high saucer pass, once which O'Brien batted down before beating Colten Ellis with a nifty backhand deke to make it 1-0 Growlers with 16:27 left in the first.
Thanks in large part to the strong play of Ellis in the Railers goal - turning away 19 of the 20 shots he faced in the opening 20 minutes - Newfoundland would settle for a 1-0 lead after the 1st.
O'Brien made it a pair on the evening less than two minutes into the second period. With the Growlers on a 5-on-3 man advantage, O'Brien was gifted acres of space at the backdoor where he rounded Ellis and tucked it home in style to make it 2-0 Newfoundland with 18:10 left in the 2nd.
Jeremy McKenna brought the Growlers advantage to three with just under five minutes left in the 2nd as he found himself in behind the Railers defence and dangled Ellis before finishing on his forehand to make it 3-0 Newfoundland after 40 minutes.
Orrin Centazzo put the nail in the coffin with under four minutes left in regulation as Boland showed great hustle to beat out a delayed icing call, spotted O'Brien who found Centazzo all alone to finish off a great passing play and make it a 4-0 final for the hosts.
Angus Redmond stopped all 20 shots he faced for the shutout and the victory.
