Utah Grizzlies News Release
NEWS AND NOTES
Press Conference Wednesday
The Utah Grizzlies and the Huntsman Cancer Institute will hold a press conference Wednesday, October 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
The press conference will officially announce details for the "Pink In The Rink" night that the Grizzlies will be holding during their game on Saturday, October 28 at 7:05 p.m. at the E-Center. During the "Pink In The Rink" game, the ice at the E-Center will be pink and the Grizzlies will be wearing pink jerseys to promote breast cancer awareness.
The Huntsman Cancer Institute is located at 2000 Circle of Hope in Salt Lake City. For more information, contact Adrian Denny in the Grizzlies public relations department at (801) 835-8989.
Wirll'in and Scorin
Mike Wirll collected at least a point in all three games this past weekend. In Sunday's 4-3 come from behind win, the fourth-year pro recorded one goal and two assists, also becoming the first Utah player of the year to score three points in one game.
Kinasewichless
Wirll's performance was big for the Grizzlies this weekend as the team was without last year's leading scorer Ryan Kinasewich, (39 goals, 46 assists) who is still waiting to get into the Grizzlies lineup as he patiently sits through the immigration process from Canada.
Mr. McVicar
Rob McVicar stopped 99 of 107 (.930 save percentage) shots he faced this weekend, including a Grizzlies ECHL record 51 saves on Friday night. The all-time team record is 54 set by Tommy Soderstrom November 2, 1996 versus Houston in the IHL. The previous Grizzlies ECHL record was 48 saves by Alfie Michaud in a 4-0 win at Phoenix on February 26, 2006.
All-Time Record Shattered and Shattered Again
With 14 power-plays on Friday night versus Phoenix, the Grizzlies broke the previous all-time team record for the most power-plays in a game. The old record of 12 happened four times. Saturday, Utah broke Friday night's all-time team record with 16 chances on the power-play.
Strong Third Periods
Saturday and Sunday evenings, the Grizzlies combined to outscore Phoenix 4-1 in the third period.
Second Period Struggles
However, Utah was outscored 4-0 in the second period over the three-game series.
Power-Play Brad
Brad Herauf is tied for the team lead with three goals through three games. All three goals have been scored on the power-play. Herauf had three power-play goals all of last year in 72 regular season games.
Last Year Versus Las Vegas
Utah went 2-1 versus the Wranglers at the E-Center and 4-3 overall in 2005-2006. The hockey rivalry between Utah and Las Vegas dates back to 1995.
