ESTERO, FL - The Florida opened their ninth season in the ECHL with a weekend series against the Texas Wildcatters this past week. The Everblades head into this week's action with a record of 1-1-0 (2pts, T-3rd South Div.).

Thursday & Saturday, October 26 & 28 vs. Charlotte Checkers (Both Games) 7:30 p.m.
GAME NOTES: The Everblades face the Charlotte Checkers for the first time this season when the Checkers come to Germain Arena for a pair of games on Thursday and Saturday. The games are the first two of nine meetings between the South Division rivals and the first two of five at Germain Arena. Last season the Everblades compiled a 5-2-0 records vs. Charlotte, including going 3-0-0 at home vs. the Checkers. The Checkers enter this week's action with a record of 2-0-0 (4 pts., 1st, South Div.). The Everblades hold an all-time record of 18-8-2 vs. Charlotte and an all-time record of 10-1-0 at home vs. the Checkers.

Friday, October 20 vs. Texas 5-2 L
The Everblades opened their regular season schedule with a 5-2 loss to the Texas Wildcatters on Friday night at Germain Arena. The Everblades jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Brett Peterson and Brett Carson but Texas responded with three second period goals and a pair of goals in the third. Craig Kowalski started in goal for the Everblades and suffered the loss allowing the five goals on 35 shots. Florida Special Teams: PP: 1-for-10; PK: 10-for-13.
Saturday, October 21 vs. Texas 5-2 W
The Everblades bounced back in the second game of the weekend series vs. Texas to earn their first win of the season by picking up a 5-2 decision over the Wildcatters on Saturday night at Germain Arena. For the second straight night the Everblades opened the scoring on a first period Vince Bellissimo tally. After Texas tied the game with less than two minutes remaining in the first period, Brad Parsons scored the first of his two goals. Texas re-tied the game in the second period, but the Everblades scored the next three. Jonathan Lehun scored the first of two short-handed goals for the 'Blades midway through the second period. After Parson's tallied his second power play goal of the night, Brent McDonald tallied the second short-handed goal for the Everblades to seal the win. Rookie David Shantz earned his first pro win in goal by stopping 27 of 29 Texas shots. Florida special teams: PP: 2-for-8, PK: 10-for-11.
Player of the Week Nominee: This week's Everblades nominee for ECHL player of the week is Brad Parsons who tallied two power play goals in Florida's 5-2 win over Texas on Saturday night. The Everblades Goaltender of the Week nominee is David Shantz who earned his first professional win by stopping 27 of 29 Texas shots on Saturday night.
Bicentennial Mark!: With the Everblades 5-2 win over the Texas Wildcatters on Saturday night, Head Coach Gerry Fleming earned his 200th win as the Everblades head coach. Now in his sixth season behind the Everblades bench, Fleming is 200-116-46 at the club's head coach. Fleming first took over the helm of the 'Blades in the 2001-02 season. Overall as a head coach Fleming is 237-143-53.
Milestones: Heading into the 2006-07 season, here are some milestones that Everblades players and coaches are approaching in their professional careers: F Reggie Berg is 12 games shy of playing in his 300th career game and is 18 points away from his 300th career point...D Ryan Brindley is 45 games away from playing in his 500th career game, and finds himself two assists shy of 200 and 17 points away from his 300th...F Dustin Johner is just four goals shy of his 50th career marker...F Bill Kinkel is one game away from skating in his 100th career game...F Brent McDonald needs 14 points to collect his 200th and is 17 goals away from his 100th career goal...F Brad Parsons needs seven assists to hit the century mark...D Jeremy Swanson is eight games away from playing in his 100th career game.
Lord Stanley: On Saturday, October 28 the Everblades will be paying tribute to their Stanley Cup Champion affiliate, the Carolina Hurricanes. When the 'Blades host the Charlotte Checkers they will wear special Carolina Hurricane jerseys and the Stanley Cup will be at Germain Arena. Prior to the game there will be a special photo session for season ticket holders and during the pre-game warm-ups and first period all other fans can get their picture taken with the Stanley Cup.
MY TV 8!: The first of six Everblades TV broadcasts will air on Saturday, October 28 when the Everblades host the Charlotte Checkers. Game time is 7:35 p.m. and fans can watch all the action on MY TV 8! Kevin Reiter and Ken Schinkel will call all the action!
Coach's Show!: The Everblades Coach's Show "Blades Talk" is back!! The first show will be on Tuesday, October 24 from the studio of SportsRadio 770 AM. The show will return to its normal Monday slot, live from Stevie Tomato's Sports Page in Ft. Myers on Monday, October 23, 2006 30. As usual, the show which feature Everblades head coach Gerry Fleming and an Everblades player along with the voice of the Everblades Kevin Reiter and will air from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Broadcast Programming Note: The Everblades audio broadcast of their game on Thursday, October 26 vs. Charlotte will be heard via the internet only. This is due to the contractual obligations of SportsRadio 770 AM carrying the World Series. Game 5 is on Thursday night.
