Player Notes: Tim Wallace scored his first professional goal in a 10-3 loss to Charlotte on Friday...Kurtis McLean notched three assists over the weekend and leads the team with three points...Ned Havern had a goal and an assist in Saturday night's 5-3 loss.


Team Notes: The Nailers opened the 19th season of ECHL hockey with a pair of games in Charlotte, NC. Wheeling went winless in their first trip of the 2006-07 season, dropping both games to the Charlotte Checkers at Bobcat Arena. In games marred by numerous penalties, the Nailers were forced to kill off 40 Checkers' power plays (18 Friday, 22 Saturday). The Nailers allowed 11 power-play goals and scored three of their own over the weekend.

Friday, October 20 Wheeling 3 @ Charlotte 10
The Nailers took a 1-0 lead on their third shot of the game when Tim Wallace found the back of the net 4:00 into the opening period. After the Charlotte equalizer, Jordan Cameron tipped in a shot from Paul Bissonette to give the Nailers back the lead at 11:13 of the first period. Three Checkers goals, two in the final minute of the frame gave Charlotte a 5-2 lead after one period of play. Wheeling was outscored 3-1 in the second period, getting a goal from Joe Guenther at the 11:14 mark. Charlotte capped off the game with two more power-play goals in the third. Wheeling took 22 penalties (64 min.) while Charlotte recorded just 11 (31 min.)

Saturday, October 21 Wheeling 3 @ Charlotte 5
Charlotte scored three times and held the Nailers to just one shot in the first period before holding on for the 5-3 win. Ned Havern scored his first goal in a Nailers' uniform at 7:29 of the second. After the Checkers scored their fourth goal early in the third, Grant McNeil and Sean Collins each scored to bring the Nailers within one. With just over a minute to go and the extra attacker on the ice, Charlotte scored on the empty net to secure the win. Andy Franck was peppered with 53 shots, stopping 49 in the losing cause.

Wednesday, October 25 Wheeling @ Johnstown 7:30p.m.
The Nailers travel to Johnstown for a game with the Chiefs on Wednesday night. The Chiefs are 1-1-0 after beating Pensacola on Saturday falling in Trenton on Sunday.

Friday, October 27 Johnstown @ Wheeling 7:30p.m.
Wheeling kicks off its home schedule Friday night when they host Johnstown. There will be a magnet schedule giveaway to the first 2,500 fans in WesBanco Anena.

Saturday, October 28 Dayton @ Wheeling 8:05p.m.
The Bombers visit Wheeling for Saturday night showdown. The first 2,500 fans will receive a t-shirt with Wheeling's new logo to commemorate the fifteenth year of professional hockey in the Ohio Valley.

Nailers Player of the Week:
The Nailers Player of the Week is Kurtis McLean. McLean assisted on three of the Nailers' six goals this weekend. His three points lead the team.

Nailers Goaltender of the Week:
The Nailers Goaltender of the Week is Andy Franck. After letting up five goals on twenty shots during the first period on Friday night, Franck bounced back and stopped 49 of the 53 shots he faced on Saturday.
