Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Ice Dogs got behind the eight ball early, rallied, and then fell short to the Bakersfield Condors Sunday Night at the Long Beach Arena.
The Ice Dogs (0-2) have not had with the lead throughout their first six periods of the season. The Condors came out flying in the first period, outscoring Long Beach 3-1 during the first period of play. Northeastern Grad and Bakersfield forward Brian Swiniarski got the scoring going early beating Long Beach goaltender Jeff Weber with a backhander from the right wing side to give the Condors the 1-0 lead. Adam Ianiero made it 2-0, before Mark Tobin scored his first professional goal on the power play at 14:03 to cut the lead in half. But less than two minutes later, Alexandre Bolduc scored an unassisted shorthanded goal that beat the poke check of Weber and into the empty net on the back hand.
The Ice Dogs returned the favor in the middle frame, as Alex Kim, Terry Harrison, and Chris Collins all scored goals for the Dogs, while Adam Ianiero scored his second goal of the night. Harrison's goal was a shorthanded tally, while Kim scored on the power play.
Bakersfield's Mike Hofstrand scored a little over eight minutes into the third period on the power play to give the Condor's their third lead of the night. Unfortunately for the Dogs, this lead stuck. The Ice Dogs had several power play chances late in the third period but could not find the back of the net, as Bakersfield net minder Dave Taylor made some key saves down the stretch.
Notes: The Ice Dogs went 2-12 on the PP. Condors went 1-12. The game was delayed for a few minutes in the first period when Long Beach goaltender Jeff Weber had an equipment problem.... Long Beach Equipment Manager Jim Chesnut worked his magic on the bench and Weber was allowed to continue. Rob Flynn, Andrew Winnik, and Gabriel Proulx made their Ice Dogs debuts. Proulx added two assists. Next game will be on Friday, October 27, vs. the Stockton Thunder. Game time is 730PM at the Long Beach Arena... All fans will receive a "Spike Mask" and are encouraged to dress up in costume for Halloween weekend. Call 562-ICE-DOGS for ticket information.
