March 9, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have released Forward Brent Gauvreau from a professional tryout contract. Gauvreau, who signed with the Sound Tigers in January, returns the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves. He had three goals, two assists, five points and eight penalty minutes in 12 games as a Sound Tiger.
Gauvreau, 24, has 20 goals, 35 assists, 55 points and 38 penalty minutes in 41 games with Mississippi this season. The 6'3'' 210-pound native of Sudbury, Ontario also had an assist for the Western Conference at the ECHL's All-Star game in Peoria, Illinois just before signing with the Sound Tigers. Gauvreau split last season between the ECHL's Jackson Bandits and Augusta Lynx after spending most of the previous two years with Mississippi. He also played three games with the AHL's Springfield Falcons in 2001-02 and one with them in 2000-01, as well as a pair of games with the AHL's Saint John Flames in 1999-2000 after finishing a four-year junior career, 1996-2000, with the Ontario Hockey League's Oshawa Generals holding that team's career games-played record, including playoffs, with 297. Gauvreau was also a member of Oshawa's 1999-2000 OHL Championship team.
The Sound Tigers will host the Providence Bruins tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on WICC and at www.soundtigers.com.
