SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Zbynek Michalek (pronounced zih-BIHN-ek mih-KHAL-lek) from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL), the team's primary development affiliate.

Michalek, 21 (12/23/82), has recorded 19 points (5-14=19), three power play goals and 32 penalty minutes in 53 games with Houston this year. This is the third time he has been recalled by the Wild this year. Michalek made his NHL debut versus Pittsburgh on January 16, 2004 and is scoreless in eight contests with Minnesota this season. The 6-foot-2, 199-pound defenseman collected 14 points (4-10=14) and 26 penalty minutes in his first professional season with Houston last year ranking third on the team with a +16 rating. He tallied 90 points (26-64=90) and 106 penalty minutes in 137 games during two seasons (2000-02) with Shawinigan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

The Jindrchuv Hradec, Czech Republic-native was signed as a free agent by Minnesota on September 29, 2001. Michalek will wear sweater number 6.
