MANCHESTER, NH – The Los Angeles Kings, the NHL affiliate of the Manchester Monarchs, on Tuesday acquired left wing Jeff Cowan from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for left wing and former Monarch Kip Brennan. Cowan, 27, has played in 58 games this season with the Thrashers, recording career-highs in goals (nine), assists (15) and points (24). He also has 68 penalty minutes. He appeared in 66 games last season with the Thrashers, recording eight points (3-5=8) and a personal-best 115 penalty minutes, the third most penalty minutes on the club.

"Jeff is big, physical winger who forechecks well and is strong around the net," said Kings senior vice president/general manager Dave Taylor. "We like his work ethic and feel he will be a real good fit for our team."

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Scarborough, Ontario, was acquired by the Thrashers from the Calgary Flames on December 20, 2001, along with Kurtis Foster in exchange for Petr Buzek and a conditional draft selection. Cowan made his NHL debut in 1999-00 with the Flames, and has appeared in 245 career NHL regular season games with the Thrashers and the Flames, recording 56 points (30-26=56) and 363 penalty minutes. Cowan originally signed with the Flames on October 2, 1995, after not being selected in the NHL Entry Draft.

Brennan, 23, has appeared in 18 games with the Kings this season, recording one point (a goal) and 79 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 222-pound native of Kingston, Ontario, has also appeared in two games with the Monarchs this season, totaling no points and six penalty minutes. Drafted by the Kings in the fourth-round (103rd overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Brennan has one point (a goal) and 158 penalty minutes in 41 career NHL regular season games with the Kings.

The Kings (25-19-16-7, 73 points) return to the ice on Tuesday night versus the Phoenix Coyotes at Staples Center (10:30 p.m. EST) in the first game of a home-and-home series.
