Milwaukee Admirals News Release
OVERALL...The Milwaukee Admirals (35-17-7-3) enter this week's action with the AHL's second best winning percentage (.645). They are six points behind the West Division leading Grand Rapids Griffins and five points ahead of the third place Chicago Wolves. Milwaukee is 14-3-1 over their last 18 games outscoring their adversaries, 72-35.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
HAMILTON...The Admirals are 1-3-1-1 lifetime vs. the Bulldogs, including 0-1-1-0 at the Bradley Center. This season, Milwaukee is 0-1-0-1 vs. Hamilton losing 4-3 in overtime on November 21st and 3-2 on November 22nd in Hamilton.
TORONTO...The Admirals are 2-0 vs. the Roadrunners, including 1-0 in Toronto. The Roadrunners enter this game with a nine-game home winning streak and are 11-4 overall in the last 15 games. Toronto's last home defeat was a 5-1 setback vs. the Admirals on February 1st.
GRAND RAPIDS...The Admirals are 1-4-1-0 in six games vs. the league leading Griffins, including 0-2 at the Van Andel Arena. The Admirals are 5-17-2-1 lifetime in Grand Rapids, including 1-7-2-0 in the last ten. In the last 13 overall games vs. Grand Rapids, the Ads are 4-6-3-0.
UTAH...This is the seventh of 10 games and the first of three straight between the teams. The Admirals are 4-2 vs. the Grizzlies overall and 3-1 on Bradley Center ice. In the past 12 meetings Milwaukee is 8-2-0-2 and 12-3-1-2 in the last 18 overall
LAST WEEK'S ACTION...The Admirals unleashed a 13-goal offensive barrage over two games defeating the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, 7-2 on Saturday night and the Utah Grizzlies, 6-2 on Friday night. Greg Zanon and Mike Farrell both scored a goal in each game. Darren Haydar had five points (1g-4a), Simon Gamache (4a), Mathieu Darche (1g-3a) and Curtis Murphy (1g-3a) each had four points over the two games.
HOME, SWEET HOME...After a sluggish 8-8-2-0 start on Bradley Center ice to begin the season, the Admirals are now 12-1-2 in the last 15 home games outscoring their adversaries, 61-26. Mathieu Darche has scored in seven straight home games (3g-6a) and 11 of his past 12 contests at the BC (5g-9a). Brad Tiley has also scored in seven straight home games (3g-5a) and 10 of the last 11 (3g-9a).
ON THE ROAD AGAIN...Nine of the Admirals next 12 games will be on foreign ice. Milwaukee enters this weekend's action with an impressive 15-8-3-3 road mark. They are 4-2 in the last six road games and 7-4-1-1 in the past 13 contests away from the Bradley Center, outscoring their opponents 46-32.
TRANSACTIONS...The Nashville Predators have reassigned Wyatt Smith to the Admirals. The 27-year old, Thief River Falls, Minnesota native has four points (3g-1a) in 18 games with the Preds. The 5'11, 200-pound center has nine points (5g-4a) in 26 games with the Admirals this season.
ON THE PLUS SIDE...Entering this week's action, the entire Admirals active roster is +1 or better. Three Admirals rank among 1-2-3 among AHL players in plus/minus. Defenseman Curtis Murphy (+29) and rookie forward Timofei Shishkanov (+23) hold the first two spots and defenseman Ray Schultz is tied for third at +22.
THROUGH 62 GAMES...The Admirals are currently 15 points ahead of last season's pace after 62 games. With only 18 games remaining in the AHL regular season, the Admirals are 35-17-7-3 (80 points) and in second place in the West Division, compared to a 24-21-14-4 (65 points) mark and fifth place in the West Division during the 2002-03 campaign. They've amassed a league leading 210 goals this season, while registering 196 red lighters through 62 games last year. The Ads have surrendered only 144 goals in 2003-04, while allowing 199 through 62 games last season. Milwaukee boasts one of the league's finest road records at 15-8-3-3 (.621), compared to a 10-13-4-2 mark (.448) after 29 road games a year ago. At the BC, the current Admirals are 20-9-4-0 (.667) after 33 games, while their predecessors were 14-8-8-3 (.591) in the same span.
LEADING BLUELINERS...The Admirals feature the AHL's eighth stingiest defense allowing only 2.32 goals per game. Milwaukee's defensemen also rank among league leaders offensively. Curtis Murphy leads AHL blueliners with 39 points (12g-27a). Brad Tiley tops all AHL defensemen in power play goals with nine. Tiley, a 33-year old, Markdale, Ontario native, also ranks fourth among AHL defensemen with 37 points (10g-27a).
STELLAR PAIR...In 33 games since January 1st, Milwaukee has a 21-8-3-1 record and goaltenders Brian Finley and Wade Flaherty have allowed only 69 goals for a 2.06 goals against average. Finley, a 22-year old Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario product, won his seventh straight home game last Friday, improving his overall record to 18-12-4 with a 2.42 GAA and a .916 save percentage. Veteran Wade Flaherty ranks ninth among AHL netminders with a 2.03 GAA. The 36-year old, Terrace, B.C. native brings a 15-8-3 record and a .927 save percentage into this week's action.
