Canadiens acquire Rene Vydareny from Canucks

Montreal Canadiens General Manager, Bob Gainey, announced today the acquisition of defenceman Rene Vydareny from the Vancouver Canucks in return for forward Sylvain Blouin.

Vydareny, a 22-year old native of Bratislava (Slovakia) played in 50 games with the AHL Manitoba Moose this season, collecting 12 points (2-10-12) and 16 penalty minutes. In three AHL seasons with the Moose, Vydareny collected 36 points (7-29-36) in 182 games.

Vydareny, the Vancouver Canucks 3rd round pick (69th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, weights in at 198 lbs for a height of 6Õ1Ó. He will report to the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs.

Blouin played in 29 games with the Bulldogs this season, collecting 3 points (2-1-3) and 75 penalty minutes. Acquired from the Minnesota Wild on October 31, 2002 against a 7th round pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Blouin played in 17 games with the Canadiens last season, collecting 43 penalty minutes. Blouin played in 115 NHL games with the NY Rangers, Minnesota and Montreal, collecting 7 points (3-4-7) and 336 penalty minutes.
