Canucks Acquire Varlamov from Blues for Ready; Varlamov Assigned to Moose

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced today they have acquired left winger Sergei Varlamov from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for left winger Ryan Ready. Vancouver then directly assigned Varlamov to the Moose.

So far in 2003-04, Ready has played in 64 games. He has seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points to go along with 55 penalty minutes.

The 25-year-old Peterborough native has played in 204 games over his career as a Moose, netting 130 points (54 goals, 76 assists) and 180 penalty minutes. Last season he netted 50 points (24 goals, 26 assists) in 68 games and in 2001-02 he was named the team's Most Valuable Player, registering 55 points (23g, 32a) in 72 games.

Sergei Varlamov has played in 43 games this season for the Worcester IceCats During that time, he scored seven goals and added 16 assists for 23 points and 18 PIM.

The 25-year-old native of Kiev, Ukraine played last season for the IceCats, and led the team scoring recording 61 points (23 goals, 38 assists) in 72 games. He spent the entire 2001-02 season with the St. Louis Blues, scoring five goals and adding seven assists for 12 points in 52 games.

Previous to that, he played for the Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League from 1997-2001, recording 65 goals and 84 assists for 149 points and 210 penalty minutes in 200 games. Sarno led the Western Hockey League in scoring in 1997-98 with Swift Current (66g, 53a, 119pts in 72gp). Over his entire WHL career he played 199 games, netting 248 points (135g, 113a).
