Canucks Acquire Blouin from Canadiens for Vydareny; Blouin Assigned to Moose

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced today they have acquired left winger Sylvain Blouin from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenceman Rene Vydareny. Vancouver then directly assigned Blouin to the Moose.

So far in 2003-04, Vydareny has played in 50 games. He has two goals and 10 assists for 12 points to go along with 16 penalty minutes.

The 22-year-old native of Bratislava, Slovakia has played in 50 games over his career as a Moose, netting 36 points (7 goals, 29 assists) and 77 penalty minutes. Last season he netted 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) in 71 games.

Sylvain Blouin has played in 29 games this season for the Hamilton Bulldogs. During that time, he netted two goals and three points along with 75 PIM.

The 25-year-old native of Montreal, Quebec split last season between the Bulldogs and Montreal Canadiens. In 19 games with Hamilton, he scored two goals and added four assists for six points and 39 penalty minutes. He had two points and 28 PIM in 11 playoff games for the Bulldogs. In 17 games with the Canadiens, he registered 43 PIM.

Over his AHL career, Blouin has amassed 1483 penalty minutes in 328 games. He's also scored 45 goals and 58 assists for 103 points. In 115 NHL games, he has registered seven points (3g, 4a) and racked up 336 PIM. Blouin played three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 1991-1994, scoring 50 points (18g, 32a) and registering 888 penalty minutes in 158 games played. Blouin had a league-leading 492 penalty minutes in the 1993-94 season with Laval.
