Piccinich Named to 2020 Warrior/ECHL All-Star Classic
January 6, 2020 - ECHL (ECHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's St. Louis Blues, announced Monday that forward J.J. Piccinich has been selected as the Oilers' representative at the 2020 Warrior/ECHL All-Star Classic presented by Toyota, hosted by the Wichita Thunder in Wichita, KS.
Piccinich has 32 points (9G, 23A) in 33 games with the Oilers this season, surpassing his points total from his 2018-19 Kelly Cup campaign with the Newfound Growlers. In total, the Paramus, NJ native has 106 points (36G, 70A) in 164 career ECHL games, appearing for Tulsa, Newfoundland and Orlando. A fourth round pick of the Maple Leafs in 2014, Piccinich has also played in 10 career AHL games, six with the Toronto Marlies and four with the San Antonio Rampage.
Prior to turning pro, the 6'0, 190 lbs. forward played in the OHL for the London Knights, compiling 138 points (56G, 82A) in 132 games. Piccinich won an OHL title and Memorial Cup with the Knights in 2015-16 before captaining the team during the 2016-17 season. Before deciding to play in the OHL, the Oilers' leading scorer played in 25 games with Boston University, winning the 2014-15 Hockey East Championship.
Following the format established last season, the Warrior/ECHL All-Star Classic will feature a 3-on-3 tournament with four teams competing for the top spot. The host Wichita Thunder will make up two of the four teams and face-off against the other two teams made up of All-Star players from the Eastern and Western Conference. These four teams will compete in a 3-on-3 tournament with rally scoring in order to crown a winner. The 2020 Kansas Star Casino/ECHL All-Star Skills Competition will take place in between rounds of the tournament, with results counting toward the cumulative score.
In partnership with the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association, four members of the U.S. Women's Ice Hockey Team will participate in the All-Star Classic as part of the PWHPA's barnstorming "Dream Gap Tour" that is visiting several cities in Canada and the United States.
Taking part in the All-Star festivities will be three members of the 2018 U.S. Olympic Gold Medal squad - Dani Cameranesi, Kali Flanagan and Gigi Marvin - along with 3-Time World Champion Annie Pankowski. Each player will be assigned to one of the four All-Star Classic teams, as well as participating in the Kansas Star Casino/ECHL All-Star Skills Competition.
