Player notes:
Jason Jaffray leads the team in goals (4), assists (4), points (8), power play goals (2), shorthanded goals (1) and shooting percentage (25.0). The line of Jaffray, J.C. Ruid and J.F. Dufour has combined for 17 of the 36 total points scored by the Nailers team through the first four games. Dufour leads the Nailers with two game-winning goals this season. Jaffray is tied for eighth in the ECHL in scoring with 8 points and Martin Brochu is tied for the league lead in wins with 3.
Team notes:
The Nailers 7-0 loss on Friday night in Peoria was the worst loss by a shutout since an 8-0 loss in Cincinnati on December 7, 2002. The loss also equaled the second worst loss by shutout in Wheelings history, the team had lost 7-0 on three other occasions. The 5-1 win on Saturday was the largest margin of victory since a 4-0 win against Johnstown on March 28, 2003, it was also the second time this season that the Nailers scored at least five goals in a game.
Friday, October 24
Wheeling 0 @ Peoria 7
The Wheeling Nailers lost their first game of the season in their first road game of the season. The Nailers were shutout 7-0 by the Rivermen, equaling the second worst loss by shutout in team history. Peoria scored three first period goals, one on the power play, to put Wheeling behind for the first time this season. Craig Olynick had one goal and Tylet Rennette had two goals. Randy Rowe scored a second period goal to give Peoria a 4-0 lead. The Rivermen scored three more times in the final period, two on the power play, for the 7-0 win. Brendan Brooks scored one of the goals, Rowe scored his second of the game and Renette completed his hat trick. Former Nailers goalie Mike Valley made 23 saves for his first shutout of the season. Martin Brochu took the loss giving up four goals on 20 shots. Tyler MacKay appeared in his first game of the season making 13 saves on 16 shots in 27:42 of playing time.
Sunday, October 19
Wheeling 5 @ Peoria 1
The Nailers rebounded after a loss the previous night to win their first road game of the season by beating the Rivermen 5-1. Mark Kosick scored his first goal of the season, a power play goal, from Dan Ennis and Mario Larocque at 11:01 to give Wheeling a 1-0 lead. J.F. Dufour increased the Nailers lead to 2-0 at 15:02 with a goal from Jason Jaffray and J.C. Ruid. Jaffray ended the first period scoring with a shorthanded goal at 17:00 from Ruid and Kamil Kuriplach. Wheeling increased their lead to 4-0 at 5:33 on Brendon Hodge's first goal of the season from Steve Crampton. The Nailers largest lead of the game came at 8:38 of the second period when Jaffray scored his second goal of the game from Eddie Pershin and Larocque to make it 5-0. Peoria scored their only goal at 15:19 of the second period to make it a 5-1 game. Martin Brochu made 17 saves on 18 shots for the win.

Friday, October 31
Wheeling @ Reading 7:05p.m.
Wheeling plays the Reading Royals in the first of nine games during the regular season and first of two for the weekend. The Nailers were 0-5-1 against the Royals last season, 0-3-0 in Reading. The Nailers are 32-27-7 all-time against the Reading franchise.
Saturday, November 1
Toledo @ Wheeling 7:30p.m.
The Nailers return home to WesBanco Arena against the Toledo Storm, the ECHL's defending Brabham Cup Champions. Wheeling was 1-8-0 against the Storm last year, including 0-5-0 at home. The first 2,500 fans in attendance to this game will receive a Nailers magnetic schedule courtesy of H.E. Neumann.
Sunday, November 2
Reading @ Wheeling 2:00p.m.
The Nailers conclude the weekend with an afternoon game against the Reading Royals. Last season the Nailers were 0-2-1 on home ice against the Royals. Wheeling will introduce their third jersey during this game, a special red jersey that will be worn during Sunday home games.
Player of the Week
The Nailers Player of the Week is Jason Jaffray. Jaffray had three points on two goals, one power play and one shorthanded, and one assist. All three of his points came in a 5-1 win over Peoria on Saturday. He also played at a -1 in the +/- category.
Goaltender of the Week
The Nailers Goaltender of the Week is Martin Brochu. Brochu went 1-1-0 in two road games over the weekend. He recorded his third win of the season on Saturday by making 17 saves on 18 shots. He finished the week with a save percentage of .868 and a goals against average of 3.28.
