THE WEEK AHEAD
Thursday, October 30th vs. Mississippi Sea Wolves 7:30pm Carolina Coliseum
This is the first of two meetings between the Sea Wolves and the Inferno. The last time these two teams played was in the 2003 Southern Conference Finals. The Inferno took the series from Mississippi 4-2.
Friday, October 31st @ South Carolina Stingrays 7:30pm N. Charleston Coliseum
The Inferno is 10-5-1 all-time against the Stingrays. Columbia will play South Carolina six times this season.
Saturday, November 1st vs. Charlotte Checkers 7:30pm Carolina Coliseum
Charlotte is 2-1-0 on the season and is tied for fourth place with four points in the Southern Division. The Inferno is 7-2-1 all-time against the Checkers. These two teams met in preseason and Columbia won 3-1.
LAST WEEK Tuesday, October 21st COLUMBIA 5 Columbus 3
Jesse Schultz opened the scoring 3:18 into the first period with a wrist-shot over the left shoulder of Columbus goalie Olivier Michaud. Assisting on the goal were Derek Eastman and Corey Hessler. At 14:10, Robin Carruthers took a feed from Barrie Moore for a short-handed goal. With less than two minutes left in the period, Carruthers scored an even-strength goal on passes from Alex Burrows and Moore. Just over two minutes into the second period, Paul Cabana and Moore set up Terry Harrison to score another even-strength goal pushing the score to 4-0. In the same period, Columbus scored three consecutive goals within seven minutes. Columbia's Eastman scored the game's final goal at 17:05 of the second period with assists awarded to Moore and Harrison.
Friday, October 24th Columbia 2 GREENSBORO 4
The Columbia Inferno recorded their first lose of the season against the Greensboro Generals Friday night 4-2. The Inferno took an early lead with two goals in the first period. Jesse Schultz scored at 9:12 on the power play with assists to Alex Burrows and Chris Pittman. Terry Harrison scored with 33 seconds left in the period. Schultz and Greg Amadio had the assist. Greensboro scored the last four goals of the game to skate away with the win. The Generals had 40 shots on goal.
Sunday, October 26th Columbia 4 COLUMBUS 5 (SO)
In the first shootout of the season, the Columbia Inferno came up short and lost to the Columbus Cottonmouths 5-4. Alex Burrows scored first for the Inferno at 6:30 of the first period with a pass from Terry Harrison. Twenty-seven seconds later, Paul Cabana feeds the puck to rookie Blair Clarance as he scores his first professional goal of the season. Columbus answered just two seconds later with a goal by Brad Voth. Tomas Micka will tie game for the Cottonmouths at two a piece at 13:18. The only scoring to happen in the second period was by Jesse Schultz as he scored his fourth goal of the season at 3:33 to give the Inferno a 3-2 lead. Barrie Moore had the assist. Alex Burrows with the assist by Schultz scored at 5:34 of the third period as the Inferno took a 4-2 lead. Columbus held on as they scored two power play goals, including the tying goal with only 13 seconds left in the game.
