Bombers Look to Notch First During Busy Week of Play

BOMBERS GO TO JOHNSTOWN, THEN RETURN HOME FOR COLLEGE/BUD LIGHT DOLLAR BEER NIGHT & BUCKY'S FLIGHT CREW KICKOFF/UNITED WAY EVENTS: The Dayton Bombers ECHL (America's Premier AA Hockey League) schedule will pick up this week with their first three games-in-three days sequence of the season. The Bombers are looking to provide first-year Head Coach Jamie Ling with his first professional head coaching triumph. Below is a review of this past week's games:

10/24/03- Johnstown 6 @ BOMBERS 1

The Chiefs scored three goals in either the first or last minute of a period, including Jason Notermann's first of his two goals 15 seconds into the middle frame to break a 1-1 tie and give the Chiefs the lead for good. Dmitri Tarabrin, Jay Langager, Brent Kelly and Dominic Forget also netted scores for Johnstown, while Jason Deskins scored his third goal in the season's first two games while the Bombers were short-handed in the first period. His goal came against two-time NHL All-Star netminder Arturs Irbe, who finished the contest with 28 saves. The Bombers were a perfect 8-for-8 on the penalty kill.

10/25/03- BOMBERS 1 @ Cincinnati 4

The Cincinnati Cyclones scored three goals in a 2:34 span of the first period to provide the difference in a 4-1 win over the Dayton Bombers at the U.S. Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati Saturday night. Rookie Olivier Proulx gave the Bombers an early lead at 3:19 of the first period on the power play. Proulx's score, with assists from Jason Deskins and Brad Ralph, was his first as a professional. But Ryan Brindley (power play), Fraser Clair, and Terry Marchant scored in rapid succession to stake Cincinnati to a 3-1 lead before period's end. Garrett Prosofsky added a power play, insurance goal for the Cyclones with 23 seconds remaining in the game.

BOMBER BITES: The Bombers' three-in-three sequence this weekend is the first of 16 such "three-in-threes" this season. The "three-in-three" this weekend is the only one this season to feature a road-home-home pattern ... Bombers' rookie center Olivier Proulx scored his first professional goal on Saturday at Cincinnati ... Proulx's goal was set up by Brad Ralph and Jason Deskins. Deskins has a point in each of the Bombers' three games this season ... After this weekend, the Bombers will play five of six and eight of ten games on the road to conclude the month of November ... Defenseman Sean Connolly was recalled to Syracuse of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Sunday.

Friday, October 31, 2003 @ Johnstown Chiefs (7:00 p.m./ 6:45 p.m. broadcast time on www.daytonbombers.com- Media Center/Listen Live section- in association with www.broadcastmonsters.com)- For the second consecutive Friday, the Bombers will hook up with their divisional rivals from Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The Bombers were 0-3-1 in games played at Johnstown last season. Last Friday, the Chiefs defeated the Bombers 6-1 on Haunted House Night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. The Bombers get a chance to respond at a Halloween game to be played at the newly renovated Cambria County War Memorial.

Saturday, November 1, 2003 vs. Cincinnati Cyclones (7:00 p.m.)- Another Saturday means another game against the Cincinnati Cyclones. This game marks the fourth consecutive Saturday, including pre-season, in which the Bombers take on their I-75 foes. All area colleges will be honored as part of the Bombers' College Night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. In addition, the Bombers will usher in their first Bud Light Dollar Beer Night of the season at this event.

Sunday, November 2, 2003 vs. Toledo Storm (4:00 p.m.)- The Bombers will launch the all new "Bucky's Flight Crew," sponsored by the Office Depot, with a kick-off at this game. Also, the Bombers will be having a United Way Celebration, marking the end of United Way's campaign. Tickets are just $11 with some proceeds given to the United Way. Area businesses will be challenging United Way President Marc Levy to a contest on the ice as part of the event's festivities. The game signifies the Bombers' first of 12 head-to-head meetings scheduled this season against archrival Toledo, seven of which are to be played at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.
