October 27, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

On the Board: The Gladiators scored the first goal of a game for the first time this season in Friday night's 5-1 win over the Augusta Lynx. Jim Jackson's centering feed deflected off a Lynx defenseman at the 7:20 mark of the first period to give the Gladiators the 1-0 lead. The Gladiators have surrendered the first goal of their other three games so far this season.

Shooting Gallery: The Gladiators registered at least 10 shots in each period this past weekend, including a 23 shot output during the second period of Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Charlotte Checkers. Through 4 games this season, the Gladiators have out shot their opponents by a combined 155-92.

League Leader: Gladiators captain Cam Brown added two minutes to his ECHL penalty minute record of 2,084 in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Charlotte Checkers. Brown's 2,084 minutes entering the season places him in fourth place all time among ECHL penalty minute leaders. He now trails Brian Goudie's ECHL record of 2,253 minutes by 167 minutes. Goudie is currently playing for the United Hockey League's Richmond Riverdogs.

Unbeaten: Although it's still early in the season, the Gladiators are still unbeaten at the Arena at Gwinnett Center with a 1-0-1 record that doesn't include a pre season win over the Augusta Lynx. In their home opener, the Gladiators downed the Lynx, 5-1, and came back from a 3-1 deficit against Charlotte on Saturday night to send the contest to a shootout.

Special Teams: The Gladiators were a perfect 12-for-12 on the penalty kill over the weekend denying Augusta and Charlotte six times respectively in each game. The Gladiators also tallied a power play goal in each game over the weekend and are currently ranked 17th in the ECHL on the man advantage. The Gladiators Penalty Kill is ranked 5th in the ECHL, having killed off 90.5% of opponents opportunities.

Leaders: Cam Brown leads the Gladiators in scoring with 2 goals and 2 assists for four points. In his first appearance after joining the Gladiators from the Chicago Wolves, Michael Garnett made 17 saves and gave up just one goal early in the third period to help lift the Gladiators to a 5-1 win over the Augusta Lynx.
