WICHITA, KS (October 23, 2015) - The Missouri Mavericks (3-1-0-0) earned their second shutout in three days with net-minder, Josh Robinson, between the posts in Wichita, KS on Friday evening. The Mavs bested long-time rival, the Wichita Thunder, 3-0 in their first match-up of the 2015-16 regular season.

Robinson, in his third appearance in-goal for the Mavericks in the last three game, stopped all twenty-seven (27) shot attempts by the Thunder on Friday night, improving his save percentage to a .988% with only a .33 goals-against average through 180 minutes of playing time. The twenty-five year-old Frankenmuth, MI native was announced as the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week on Tuesday afternoon for his standout performance for the Mavericks during their season-opener weekend in Anchorage, AK.

(At the time this release was written, Robinson ranked third-overall in the ECHL goaltenders, with two games over the leaders).

The Mavericks battled with the Wichita Thunder through forty minutes of scoreless hockey at INTRUST Bank Arena, with both teams trading turns in the penalty box, totaling sixteen (16) minutes of penalty time through the opening periods.

Missouri made their move in the third period with a burst of offensive energy that netted two (2) goals in just twenty-four (24) seconds for a 2-0 lead that caught the Thunder off-guard and suddenly scrambling to get back in the game.

The first strike by the Mavs came just fifty-three seconds into the frame when Tyler Barnes scored on Wichita goalie, David Shanty, with the help of teammates Jesse Root and Kellen Jones. Maintaining the momentum of their last drive to the net, the Mavs were able to punch another puck to the back of the net, this time at the hands of rookie forward Colin Markison. Josh Holmstrom picked up the lone assist on Markison's tally.

Another six (6) minutes ticked by before the Mavs dealt the final blow against the Thunder, with Jones sneaking in a goal at 7:40 of the third period. Barnes and Holmstrom were credited with assists on the 3-0 lamp-lighter.

The Missouri Mavericks and Wichita Thunder are once again competing against each other in the Independence Cup Series, presented by Independence Tourism, during the 2015-16 ECHL regular-season.

This fifteen-game series will span the length of the regular season, ending at Wichita's home rink on Sunday, March 20th. The Mavericks will play seven (7) games of the Independence Cup at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena, beginning tomorrow for their home-opener game.

The winner of the Independence Cup Series will be determined by the highest point total earned through the fifteen-game series. The winner of will be awarded with the Independence Cup and a donation to their club's youth hockey program.

The Mavericks will face-off against the Thunder again on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:05p.m. for their home-opener game at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Limited tickets are still available for purchase online at TicketMaster.com and in-person at the arena box office.
