Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - October 23, 2015 - The Elmira Jackals hosted Reading in the third annual Pink in the Rink game presented by ArnotHealth tonight at First Arena but fell to the rival Royals, 5-1.

The Jackals introduced a couple new faces in defensemen Josh Chapman and Spiro Goulakos, but a paid of old faces stole the show. Former Jackal and Rochester American Kevin Sundher started the scoring with his first goal of the season at 7:49 of the opening frame. Just as Will Kessel's penalty expired, Sundher one-timed a cross-slot feed past C.J. Motte to put the Royals on the board first. Adam Comrie and Robbie Czarnik earned the assists. The Jackals bounced back less than a minute later as Jacob MacDonald picked the puck up in his own end and streamed down the left-wing side depositing a wrist shot over Martin Ouellette to knot the game at one apiece.

The feistiness began to increase in the second period as Taylor Stefishen dropped the gloves with Sam Windle following a post-whistle scrum. Kevin Sundher would strike again at 8:17 of the middle stanza and regain the lead for the Royals. Robbie Czarnik added his second helper of the evening. Then, with 40 seconds remaining in the second period, former Jackal Maxim Lamarche potted his first goal of the year to put Reading ahead 3-1. Czarnik and Sundher earned the assists.

The Jackals pushed offensively in the third, but could not put another past Ouellette. Tempers boiled over at 16:42 as Matt Garbowsky wrestled Joe Rehkamp away from a scrum and dropped the gloves for his first professional fight. Elmira pulled Motte for the extra attacker with 90 seconds remaining, but Adam Comrie would score the empty-net goal with 1:10 to go. Seconds later, with Motte back in net, the Royals came down on an odd-man rush and Sundher completed the hat-trick with his third of the night.

Motte stopped 28 of 32 shots faced but was saddled with the loss. Ouellette turned aside 20 of 21 shots faced for the win.
