Week in Review

Unstoppable

Jackals forward Kenton Miller continued his remarkable run since mid-February, extending his goal-scoring streak to a season-high six games, the longest active streak in the ECHL. He is now one game off the league's season-long streak of seven games, held by Toledo's Tyson Spink. During this six-game run, Miller has potted eight goals and added four assists.

The reigning Sher-Wood Hockey/ECHL Player of the Week has 26 points (18g, 8a) over his last 20 games since Feb. 11. He has goals in 15 of the 20 games over the span and the 18 goals alone would rank second on the team this season. T he Redvers, Saskatchewan native has 30 goals this season, the first time in his ECHL career he's reached that mark and the second time as a pro he's reached 30 goals, notching 32 with the Missouri Mavericks in the CHL in 2012-13.

Rolling along

Nathan Moon, who the Jackals acquired off waivers March 13, has made a good first impression in two weeks with the Jackals, logging 10 points (1g, 9a) in just six games. Moon has picked up points in all six games, including three multi-point games. He recorded his first goal as a member of the Jackals, which turned into the game-winning goal, Sunday against Manchester.

Including his 10 points with the Jackals, Moon has 33 points (10g, 23a) in 54 total games for Rapid City, Wichita, Toledo, Reading and Elmira. His 10 points with the Jackals are the most he has with any one team this season.

First timer

Jackals goalie Jason Kasdorf recorded his first professional shutout in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Manchester Monarchs. The rookie netminder stopped all 26 shots he faced for the shutout. It was the second time all season a team shut out Manchester, which entered Sunday as one of the top offenses in the league, and was the first shutout for the Jackals this season.

It took Kasdorf, 24, 31 pro games to log his first shutout and he's seen action with the Rochester Americans (3 games) and Jackals (27 games) this season, plus one game with the Buffalo Sabres last season. He had five shutouts over two seasons player junior hockey plus another seven shutouts in four seasons at R.P.I.

Kasdorf is currently in the second round of the ECHL's March MASKness and he could use your vote on twitter.

Career high

The Jackals have several players who have hit career highs throughout the course of the season. Leading the way is forward Sebastien Sylvestre, who has a career-high 52 points (23g, 29a) in just 62 games. His 23 goals are tied for his career high and his 29 assists are the most in his three-year career.

Defenseman Guy Leboeuf, who entered the season with one career goal, has potted three while appearing in all 67 games this year. Kenton Miller's 45 points are a personal best in the ECHL, but six off his career-high 51 points set in the CHL. With nine points in 20 games since being acquired in a deal with the Indy Fuel, Matt Stanisz has 19 points this season in 55 games, topping the 18 points he had as a rookie with Florida last season.

In his second pro season, Casey Thrush has a career-high 30 points with career-bests eight goals and 22 assists. Defenseman Davis Vandane, also in his second season, has established new career-highs in goals (8), assists (25) and points (33).

Game 65: Third period surge pushes Jackals past Monarchs

The Jackals scored the final five goals, including four in the third period, to maul the Manchester Monarchs, 6-2, Mar. 24 at First Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the teams exchanged goals in the second. Mark Bennett started it with a goal from the left circle at 1:36. Manchester responded with goals from Tyler Elbrecht at 3:09 and Mario Puskarich at 6:03. Sam Povorozniouk came back with a one-timer in the slot at 14:33 to tie the game at two heading into the third.

The Jackals dominated the third period, scoring four times to pull away. Sebastien Sylvestre scored the eventual game-winner at 5:12, collecting a rebound on a 2-on-2 rush with Nathan Moon. Game 66: Jackals can't dig out of early hole against Monarchs

The Manchester Monarchs built up a 6-1 lead then hung on in the third for a 7-4 win over the Jackals during Pink in the Rink Mar. 25 at First Arena.

The Monarchs came flying out of the gates and dominated the first period, taking a 2-0 lead on goals from Cory Ward at 1:06 and Tyler Elbrecht at 4:06. The Jackals flipped the script in the third, but couldn't overcome the large deficit. Kenton Miller potted his 29th goal of the season on a one-timer from the left circle at 2:37. Later Davis Vandane scored a power-play goal on a wrist shot from the blue line at 13:33 to make it 6-3 and the Sylvestre scored his second at 17:36 to make it 6-4. Game 67: Jason Kasdorf's first pro shutout gives Jackals 2-0 win

Jason Kasdorf stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Jackals blanked the Manchester Monarchs, 2-0, Mar. 26 at First Arena. It was Kasdorf's first professional shutout.

Kasdorf stopped 13 Manchester shots through the first two periods and he got all the offense he would need late in the second period. With the Jackals on the power play, Nathan Moon sent a puck from the left wing circle toward the net. It tipped off the stick on a Monarch defender and into the net for a 1-0 lead at 15:46 on Moon's first goal with the Jackals.

Kasdorf's busiest period of the night came in the third period when he faced 13 shots, stopping them all. He got an insurance goal at 11:51 when Kenton Miller extended his goal scoring streak to six games with a left circle shot to give the Jackals a 2-0 lead. Kasdorf carried the Jackals the rest of the way to a 2-0 win.
